Elevated copper, possible PCOS

I was just diagnosed with Celiacs last week via Endo. 3 weeks prior to that, I had been having breast pain, underam pain and only had my period for 1 day. It took months to get into my GI Dr who noted my LFTS were slightly elevated but I have a history of liver disease in family (my cousin needed a liver transplant due to an AI disease and my great Grandpa had alcoholic cirrhosis). He did a complete abdominal ultrasound and noted a fatty liver plus sizes were normal. I know fatty can cause elevated liver enzymes. I went to my PCP regarding the tenderness and she ordered TSH, T3, FSH, LH, prolactin and copper. All came back normal but t3 which was high and has been on past. And my copper was 2.14 and the range ends at 1.75. She thought it may be a pituitary issue. I just got copper back because it had to be sent out to Mayo clinic to get analyzed. I spoke with my GI Dr yesterday (who mind you called me at 8 pm to discuss this) and told me that IUDs cause it (I am on the Nuvaring and have been for almost 10 years) and to continue with my gluten-free diet bc something I could have been ingesting may cause it. Now I was a HUGE gluten eater, major carbaholic. Also love red meat. I saw yeast and whole wheat have a lot of copper in them. He is not concerned about it.  I also had my vitamin D tested and I was on low end of normal so I started supplementation but I see that can cause copper to accumulate. prior to being on birth control, my periods were hit and miss and very heavy. I feel I have a possible diagnosis of PCOS and my birth control has been helping regulate the hormones. My LH is 3x that of FSH which I read isn't a definite diagnosis but can point towards PCOS. As Ive also read PCOS correlates with Celiacs and elevated LFTS. I'm calling Monday to see if my PCP will order me a full vitamin panel. I can't get into the Endo until June. Of course, my mom is googling everything and is afraid I have Wilson's disease And I'm in acute liver failure because of our family history. Typically with Wilson's your copper is low but when you're liver failure, it can be elevated. I'm just wondering if anyone else has any symptoms that are similar or think I should get another Dr. My Dr is quite reputable but we have a much bigger and better health community about an hour from us. I just know it's going to take forever to get into them.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well.  Celiac Disease causes malabsorption which results in vitamin and mineral deficiencies.  Celiacs are often low in zinc.  Zinc competes with copper in the body.  You might want to get your zinc level checked, too.

Here's studies on IUD's and how they effect zinc and copper levels.

Fatty liver can be caused by drinking alcohol and also by consuming high amounts of high fructose corn syrup.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
