Gluten Free Probiotics and Pain Relief

Hello all,

I bought Renew Life's Critical Care 50 Billion probiotic but read that not all probiotics are gluten free (despite claiming so) and I was told this one is not gluten-free or gluten-free certified. So, what brands that claim to make gluten-free probiotics are actually gluten free?

Also, I'm in the very early stages of healing (about 1.5 months) and I'm wondering if Tylenol could be setting me back? I have a lot of nerve pain from celiac and so taking Tylenol is an easy solution, but after a few days my guts are on fire and I'm left wondering if it's the food or the Tylenol. I know ibuprofen is hard on the guts so I'm wondering if Tylenol is too.

Thanks

I am sorry that you are in pain.  Tylenol can cause GI upset, but then so can NSAIDs like ibuprofen.  See if you can tolerate not taking Tylenol for a few days or weeks.  You can ask your doctor for a safer substitute.

Probiotics?  Did your doctor recommend them?  Think about it.  Probiotics are bacteria.  Bacteria does not belong in the small intestine at all, it is designed to populate the large intestine.  If you have a severely compromised small intestine e.g. no villi), you might not be able to keep food moving quickly making you susceptible to SIBO (Small Intestinal   Bacterial Overgrowth).

I played it safe.  I only took prescribed iron since I was severely anemic when I was first diagnosed.   I avoided all supplements because, honestly they are a processed “food”.  I made sure that my diet was gluten free and varied.  If you do need them (your doctor can test you for deficiencies), look for certified gluten free versions.

I hope you feel better soon!

Very interesting Cycling Lady.

Everywhere I look and read mentions probiotics, so I just thought it was something I needed to help heal celiac. Is taking probiotics for celiac not recommended by doctors? Is there no evidence they help?

Yes, I'll ditch the Tylenol and just deal with the pain by laying down and resting.

Read this article.  In it, Dr. Fasano, one of the world’s leading Pediatric Gastroenterologists who (his team) discovered Zonulin and is a leading celiac disease expert, does NOT recommend probiotics.  The science is not there to support it.  While it could be beneficial for those with colon issues, it probably is not for those with small intestinal issues (like celiac disease).

I am not a doctor.  But I have plenty of snake oil to sell if you are interested.   I have some of this stuff too.  A lady named Lucille Ball sold me on it years ago!

Seriously, watch this video about Zonulin by Dr. Fasano.  And heal from celiac disease?  Eat a diet free from gluten.  Start by NOT eating out until you are well (no symptoms).   Avoid processed foods as much as possible.  Chances are you are not going to get well fast on a diet filled with gluten free cookies and cakes.

Thanks so much for this. Great links.

I'd rather not put anything else in my body either. At this point, the ole body just needs some rest :)

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
