More Bone Pain Post gluten-free..why?

I have been gluten free for about 3 to 4 weeks now.

I am now waking up and going thru each day with some new pain. I already had fibromyalgia pain. That doesn't seem as bad, but it is still their...just not as severe I don't think.

However, now I have bone pain in my legs and feet that I didn't have before. I was already figuring out that I must have gluten ataxia which will probably take me months to get over. However, is it normal, common, or even possible to be getting additional severe pain like I'm getting now? I'm having more difficulty walking now then I was having before. I even got my cane out today that I hadn't had to use for a while.

Thanks for any insight.

Celiacs are more likely to have developed osteoporosis the longer we go undiagnosed... so when we are finally dx'ed we still have to deal with weakened bones and other issues... Look into taking some supplements to help (I can't think yet today, not quite awake yet) but I'm sure there are some supplements that might help.

Thanks for the reply. I had a bone density test a year or so ago. It was o.k. Indicated that I should take a supplement though. I was already taking a supplement. It is just that this switch to bone pain was so sudden. I hadn't felt this before. I'm hoping that it is just witdrawal from the gluten, but I hadn't read where anyone else had bone pain like this.

Thanks again for the suggestion. I had forgotten to take the calcium. I'll start back on it.

Thanks Scott. They are gluten-free but cross contaminated.

Hi there @MCAyr I have a small umbilical hernia which came about during my second pregnancy.   I can just about see it, and feel it, when I stand or sit, but it is far less noticeable when I lie down.  I always know when I am putting on weight because I can get pain and burning near the site, funnily enough not on the hernia itself but either side!  I would imagine bloating could cause the same effect as weight gain. In my case I don't think it is my bowel protruding but a bit of fat  - sorry,  I realise this isn't painting a very pretty picture.  But in truth it is scarcely noticeable.  It has never really got bigger in size. I was rather hoping that it could be operated on but here in the UK they don't seem to operate on every hernia anymore.  My GP isn't remotely worried about it. In a way, I should be thankful - it is like an early warning system that I need to go on a diet! Cristiana

The hernia description would likely be unrelated to celiac disease, but you'd need to get it checked out by your doctor to be sure it's a hernia.
