A wheat allergy is a completely different immune response. Its not related to Celiac at all. An allergy cannot turn into Celiac. Celiac Disease is autoimmune . It is possible to have both conditions though. Some Celiacs also have a wheat allergy.

I have both celiac disease and a wheat allergy.

besides blistery rash around the nose son when after eating anything like oatmeal, rootbeer,

anything with wheat he gets patches of bumps (very little ) on both cheeks. & there not itchy

when little they said he had slight wheat allergy tested 5mths ago they said he had no allergies.

I had a wonderful weekend. I tried some new suntan lotion for the sun tan machines, because I need a base tan before I get to jamaica. Well I contacted the company who said there was no wheat or wheat gluten in it. Well, I tried it on my leg, it felt like my flesh was burning off, welts rose on my leg and I quickly had a shower. However, my face swelled up and was burning, I have a killer headache and runny nose, then my stomach started burning and the big D started to come back. I believe along with my wheat allergy which has probably gotten worse since going gluten-free and my Celiac, along with maybe something else chemical.

At first I thought I had the flu but the doctor said it was a very violent allergic reaction and it more than likely had wheat in it somewhere. I read every label and still it happens.

my daughter has both Celiac and a wheat allergy. She breaks out into hives if she even touches anything with wheat.

I dont have a wheat allergy but sometimes my skin is affected from gluten. I've gotten rashes or tiny bumps on my face....they dont itch. I dont have DH.

so do you also get mini blisters? on face??

Rachel--24 Collaborator

I dont think they're blisters. They're very tiny clear bumps but they dont pop or oooze or anything. They just go away on their own. My skin will sometimes burn slightly before they show up. They're so small though...nothing even very noticeable.

I get a rash and/or hives from gluten. They look a lot like chicken pox, but they can blend together to form a rash. Sometimes they are itchy and somethimes they aren't. I'm not sure if the reaction is due to celiac disease or my wheat allergy. The spots don't look like dh, so I'm assuming they are a result of my wheat allergy.

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
