Question About Meds

On my first dr vist, he put me on a perscription for IBS. After he read the results of my blood test, he said Celiac. So I have been gluten-free for about a week and still taking the Perscription. He also gave me one for viatmins. He had me go give some more blood, but my results are not in yet. My question is, should I still be taking the IBS medicine? My Doc is on vacation till next week. It seems to help I had really bad D. I don't know the name of the Perscription off hand, I have it at home.

Thank you!

Everyone here is awesome :D

YES! By all means, take the meds.

I'm trying to wean myself off the antispasmodics, but I've been on the diet only 3 weeks.

My dr. gave me a Rx. for Pamine when I was first Dx and told me to take as needed. I took it for about 2 days, and deceided to just go with any cramping I might get while I was healing. I kept it around--still have it--but never took it again.

Really, it depends on how bad your symptoms are. For me, taking the antispasmodics keeps me from being doubled over in pain all of the time. I haven't really needed them as much, though, since starting the diet.

That is a question you need to discus with your doctor, I would not stop any med until you have talked with him. Its likly with time you will stop that med, but 1 week is probably too soon.

Hi,

He called last night with the rest of my test results. He is convinced its Celiac. He told me to stop taking the Levsin, but had already taken one before his phone call. I haven't had any bad D. until 3 am this morning. I think it was from the cream cheese I had on rice crackers. I ended up taking Imodium so I could make it to work. I have to make an appointment today for the Biopsy. I just don't even want to eat today. I am so tired of feeling like crap. :(

Do you know why he told you to stop taking the Levsin? I know a lot of people recently diagnosed (self included) take the anti spasmodics on an as needed basis.

He seems to think if I just stay gluten-free I shouldn't have to take the Levsin.

Personally, I'm still in limbo, and sometimes I need it. One you're gluten-free for a year you shouldn't need them, but the problems don't disappear overnight. Not to go against your doctor, but if you find you're having trouble without them, ask him if you can take them until you're healed and the GI tract is stable.

I've taken levsin, but now I have Bentyl which is every 6 hrs and works for me better on an as needed basis.

I still haven't taken the Levsin. I am so bloated, my stomach hurts and haven't gone to the bathroom since taking the Imodium. I have my Biopsy next Thursday. Think I will start taking the Levsin again.

Thank you all for listening :)

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
