Wow, Walgreens!

I just received a call from the pharmacy manager at my local Walgreens.

I made a complaint at the Walgreens website yesterday because when I asked for the number of the company that made my generic bentyl (Watson), the tech looked at me like I had three heads, and the pharmacist didn't have a clue. I also asked them to put a note on my file that I'm allergic (close enough for practicality) to gluten. Again, I'm a friggin' Hydra, but she put some obscure note somewhere.

She said that since she didn't have the internet, I would have to look it up myself.

I don't expect walgreens to keep up with the gluten content of meds, that's like asking the grocery store to do that, things just change too often. I at least need the number to check for myself.

The manager was falling all over herself about how sorry she was about my experience and that there is a way to look up the number, but not everyone knows how to do it, and the night pharmicist yesterday was new.

Anyway, now I have a pop up screen that comes up when they fill my script that they HAVE TO include the contact information for the manufacturer due to a gluten allergy. Also, everyone is now trained on how to look up that information, pharmacists and techs. She said if I ever had a problem again to talk to the pharmacist.

THAT, my friends, is customer service. I hate Walgreens a little bit less now. ;)

So if you ever have a problem with Walgreens, just let corporate know and they'll straighten out :)

I just had the same problem on Monday! The tech at Walgreen's looked at me like "You want me to look up ALL THAT?!?" She gave me a printout of the Walgreen's brand gluten-free list, which helped, but still. What the heck? The actual pharmacist is very helpful though. If he'd been available I would have talked to him.

Chelse, That is really frustrating! I am happy to hear that they resolved your problem.

Someone like you must have already let my Walgreen's "have it"---I recently moved here and they put a pop-up screen on my file when I told them. I called the other day because I was switching meds and she didn't know the answer but called, found out, and called me back. So thanks to you and all the others who make the difference! :) (I like to think that I have educated my fair share of waitresses!)

good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).
