Period Pain...

So I'm at work. I'm crampy and bloated and downright miserable and it's occurred to me that this is exactly what it feels like when I get glutened.

Tylenol isn't doing jack for the pain. And anything stronger (ie: Ibuprofen) destroys my stomach.

Can't micro the corn bag at work because that would just be embarassing...

Anybody have any suggestions???

How about those heat pad things that adhere to your skin under your clothes? Could you leave work long enough to pick some up? A friend of mine with a bad back used to wear them to work all the time, and no one could tell. Hope you feel better--cramps are no fun

Tylenol won't do anything - it doesn't address the pain receptors in the area. Ibuprofen or naproxyn sodium will, but if it bothers your stomach even if taken with food, that's not going to work either. Some other things that work are heat, as previously mentioned, massage, or sex. Obviously the last two are hard to implement at work :-), but if you can find a quiet place and a tennis ball, you can do self-massage by rolling over the ball on the floor (face down).

A good calcium/magnesium supplement works by relaxing the muscle and therefore no cramping but the hitch is you have to be taking it for at least one month to get the benefit. So I guess this is good advice for your next period.

I believe you are falsely concluding that elevated tTG-IGA/tTG-IGG levels can only be caused by celiac disease. I will offer a link here to an article outlining the various blood antibody tests that can be used to diagnose celiac disease. Each one them has less than a 100% specificity for celiac disease:

thank you @trents ! I am reading through these, and it gives some clarity on the other possible causes of villous atrophy, but given that I still have high ttg levels, I am thinking that the most likely cause is still the celiac disease, and any treatments for other causes would not address the increased ttg levels and villous atrophy caused by that?

Hi Scott,  I am wondering how you came to this extensive list of vitamins? I just took a blood test and was low on a few items, so I am thinking about taking a multi vitamin, but I would prefer to have a doctor or professional guide me on which ones to take to help with the deficiencies. There is so much conflicting information, I don't know where to begin. Thank you!

Some other things to note and that I am wondering about is that my Mom has Chron's disease and I am wondering if that could interact here somehow. I am also wondering if I should do some form of genetic testing and what the benefit of this would be? Could this tell me my risk for developing Sprue or Lymphoma? I am very worried about this developing into Lymphoma, and wondering if that's a common thing that happens in these cases?
