Gluten-like cramps from Frozen Vegetables?

Hi!

Because of everything going on, i have not been able to get my regular "go to" frozen vegetables. I had to switch to Bird's Eye. Last week I ate a bowl of their broccoli and 2 hours later got the worst cramps I have ever had. 2 days later I started with diarrhea that's been on and off.

I didn't put the food and symptoms together. Who gets contaminated by frozen veg? I think I put it together last night that my Bird's Eye frozen vegetables were the culprit. Is this possible?

I've been paleo since 2015. Since the switch, I touch all of my food usually in its raw state and almost never eat out. (Certainly haven't eaten out since March!) So I haven't had trouble like this in a bit and I am scared.

If I have been glutened, should I expect some of the gas and diarrhea to go away in a few days?

Thanks so much! Love to you all.

I doubt the problem was that you got glutened, at least not from the frozen vegies. Lot's of things can cause the symptoms you describe including an intestinal virus.

Maybe.  Birds Eye used to do just plain veggies, but their product line has expanded dramatically to include all kinds of seasoned veggies and pasta.  Ready-to-eat style meals.  I do not buy even their plain veggies because I worry about cross contamination on shared the factory lines.     Oddly, many store brands label their frozen veggies as gluten free.  I buy those.

If you have had a gluten exposure, it can resolve with in a few days or weeks.  It all depends on you as an individual.

Hard to say for sure if this product did you in.  You could have food poisoning or a virus.  Not everything can be blamed on gluten.

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
