1st deg members with symptoms that recede on gluten-free but negative bloods and scope

I know some people believe there's a spectrum to all this but just wondering about your thoughts and experiences on first degree relatives who have had lifelong symptoms (DH, miscarriages, stomach and metabolism issues etc., debilitating joint pain etc.) , were shocked to find that that their symptoms vanished on gluten-free diet, did the 6 week challenge and again (they'd been tested before as kids) had negative bloods AND negative scope.
These members thus went back on gluten (DESPITE FEELING BETTER. Which baffles me) because they see no reason not to but I really...I just wonder. I've read a bit about the non-digestive manifestations and spectrum theories and just wonder if anybody else has experienced this.

Around 44% of first degree relatives also have celiac disease, and the rate is even higher among women. I've not seen studies on how many first degree relatives have non-celiac gluten sensitivity, but it is likely even higher. The old saying is true: You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink!
