Gluten-free housemate within 100 Miles of NYC

Is anyone else having trouble finding a place to share with a housemate who is also gluten-free? I’ve been searching for months now, including posting on celiac groups, contacting celiac support groups, asking around...and still nothing. I’m also open to renting the first or second floor of a freestanding house, but the homeowner would still have to be gluten-free, as I have debilitating symptoms when exposed to wheat heating and cooking fumes. I’m open to areas within about 100 miles from NYC. Thank you in advance for any leads.

Have you checked with any colleges or universities?

Celiac students might prefer a gluten free house to gluten filled dorms...

A little older thread, but worth following up on:

Thank you, but it would have to be a freestanding house. I'm in an apartment now and my health has deteriorated as a result.

I’m looking to rent part of a freestanding house within 100 miles of NYC, so I’m open to NY, NJ, CT...etc. I have one cat. Thanks!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
