Hi! My daughter was diagnosed in July with Celiac and has been on a strict gluten free diet and was feeling much better.  She just moved into her apartment in college with 3 other girls and is now having stomach issues.  I am sure even though she is careful there is cross contamination happening.  With her stomach issues, she just started breaking out in an itchy rash under arms, behind knees, and on buttocks.  Is this from gluten contamination? Is there any way to treat this?  Thank you - everyone here is always so helpful

Hi! It could very well be gluten related. I am not a medical professional. Has she been tested for dermatitis herpetiformis (DH)? I have not been diagnosed with it, but I suspect that I have a form of DH. I break out in an itchy rash on the back of my hands.

Has she also cut out dairy and oats? Is she sharing cooking utensils, dishes, dishrags, dishtowels, a toaster, etc with her roommates? Does she have her food stored separately? Are her roommates familiar with celiac disease and just how careful they all need to be?

Has she had any changes in any soaps, detergents, hygiene products, or cosmetic products? Are there any pets or pet food?

It might feel like I opened the fire hose on you there with all those questions. I hope it wasn't too overwhelming! If you go to the forums page on this site, there is a whole section on DH.

I hope this helps!

If moving was the only change it certainly seems like it could be contamination, or...and hopefully not, that she's cheating on the diet (peer pressure can cause this as I've experienced with my own daughter). Shared things like toasters, ovens, etc. can be a source of contamination. This article may be helpful:

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.
