BTW--as a side note, I have become intolerant to bananas after eating them every morning for so long. They were a "safe" food for me, but now, they bother me for some reason. I'm not going to try another for maybe 6 months or so and see if they still are bothersome.

Well thats just it, I dont eat them all that often. Just happened to be on sale.

Fruit can be very cleansing, particularly if eaten on an empty stomach. So, maybe it was just washing out some other gunk in your system. Maybe it wasn't the apple, but the other stuff it was cleaning up that made you sick. Eat some junk food, it's not cleansing ... kidding.

Maybe it is the coffee and you don't know it. Too much caffeine causes GI/Diahrea symptoms. I think I read up to 8 cups of 8 ounces a day will make anyone go straight to the bathroom.

ONE cup of coffee is enough to give me diarrhea, gas, and cramps!

I stopped eating apples this fall because whenever I would eat one I'd get burpy and then get a headache/nauseous feeling. I know these apples were not waxed because I bought them off a farm. Come to think about it I've had apple pie since then and didn't get the same feeling. Hmmm maybe the peeling is the culprit or being cooked changes it. I've had applesauce too with no problem, lol I'm just realizing this.

That sounds like it!

Can not be the follow:

1) eating to many apples for long time... cause have not been...only get them when on sale

2) too much fiber... got the reaction after only a few bites

3) other food/drink... did not eat/drink any.

Its defintly the apples though cause the reaction was with in minutes of that fisrt bite.

I never had all these food allergies either.

I must say -- NOW, I have a problem with APPLEs too. Never did before!

All these secondary allergies did NOT come on me until 4 or 5 years gluten & dairy free. :angry: I never cheated-- ever! I have developed a problem with so many things, NOW my diet is very limited. I think it is something we [ALL] need to study a bit more. In a couple of the celiac disease books I've read they address the very real issues of secondary allergies that many of us Celiac's get as time passes. I created a thread to see if some of the old-time > (people who have had it more then 5 or 10 years) Celiac's that have been living with celiac disease could help many of us... No one has posted anything yet. Maybe I posted in the wrong spot.

Have you been tested for apples?

Yikes, this is one I know a lot about. My youngest son is allergic to apples. Not only does he get the bloating, gas, stomach pain, etc., but his mouth itches and his lips swell. He can eat them cooked, however and the dr. said it is because the heat changes the chemical makeup of the food. This is not the case with protein foods like casein, soy and nut allergies apparently. Also, I remember on another thread a couple of months ago, someone had some interesting info on cross-allergies. For instance if you are allergic to a certain antibiotic or tree, then you may have an allergy to a food or whatever that is related chemically. (I hope I am explaining it right) Will try to find that other thread. Anyway, hopefully you can still have gluten-free apple pie!! :D

Trees--apple, peach, cherry, apricot, plum, pear, kiwi, celery, carrot, potato and hazelnut

Grass--celery, cereal grains, and potato

Weeds--apple, carrot, celery, kiwi, orange and peanut

Ragweed--banana, cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon

Sooo not sure what that is say. I am allergic to Oak, so that means that the trees line would be bad?

I *believe* it means that if you have a tree allergy, these are foods that you may also experience symptoms with. Not every person, every time--just a guideline.

I have found truth to this. But I never had any of these allergies before I went gluten & dairy free for 5 years. Except ragweed.

This is what I'm allergic to --

I have a reactive problem or allergy with these -->

TREES: APPLE'S PEACHES & HAZELNUTS

GRASS: CEREAL GRAINS POTATOES

WEEDS: APPLES (not cooks - when cooked they aren't so bad on me) ORANGES, PEANUTS

RAGWEED: (ragweed from the North East I'm allergic too) I'm not sure about the melons they seem okay - I LIVE ON BANANAS!

Check later in the thread where I mention tried again with out any drinks/other food, and only had a couple bites of the apple. Thanks for your help though, and thats not sarcastic, I do appreicate the thought :)

I can not tolerate apples at all. They are almost as bad as gluten for me. It doesn't make any difference where they come from. I have an apple tree in my back yard so there is no pesticides or wax and they blow through me just as fast as i eat them.

Patti!! Thank you--Sorry to butt in on your thread, Vincent, but Patti-did your information have a link to almonds? Like what is comparable as far as weeds, trees, etc.? Thanks :)

Also, Vincent have you tried them cooked as an experiment yet? Can you eat them cooked Iann?

I can't eat apples in any form. Juiced, cooked, peeled it doesn't matter the end result is always the same and it ain't pretty.

I can eat one apple with no problem. However, once I had some really delicious ones and made the mistake of eating two and like Ian said, it definitely was not pretty :rolleyes:

I think Im reacting to oranges too now. I have had NO gluten and NO dairy and NO apples and NO coffee... instead of the apple I bought suynkkis orranges. Ive suspected themin the past cause they make my lips tingly but I had the scratch test and had no reaction to them in that. :blink:

I can only think that you must be sensitive to the acid for some reason. I've been eating more fruit than noraml recently and I developed a huge canker sore on my tongue. Now I've cut down again, it's gone!

Citrus fruits don't agree with me either but not as bad as apples.

Gosh Vincent--what next!? :lol: Seriously, I have had to cut way back on fruit. The only thing I really do right now is a small glass of apple juice in the morning. I love orange juice, but it is too acid for me now. Same with banana, blueberries, and strawberries. If I drink grape juice two days in a row, I get a canker sore. I do sometimes eat an apple--always peeled, though. I'm using more veggies as snacks--celery w/peanut butter is good. Do you think we get more sensitive before we get better? That would explain a lot :D

My wife brought up a good point though... mbith not been the orages but contanimation from dariy in our toddler run kitchen. :)

      Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

      highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

      Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

      Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
