Fainted On Saturday

Good Morning everyone,

It's been a while since I've been on the board - I just started a new job, and have limited time while at work.

On Saturday, around 10:15 PM or so, my stomach started cramping. It was mild at first, and then became a constant rumble. So, I went into the bathroom and all hell broke loose. I was in there a good 20 minutes, and I had one BM, then a few bouts of D. It was awful. Then to top it all off, I felt like I was going to throw up and I did. After that, the next thing I remember is waking up on the bathroom floor. Thank God I was already down there and didn't whack my head on something. (Oh, I forgot to mention, my husband was out of town for the weekend ) I felt a little better after I fainted, but went directly to bed, and felt much better the next morning.

I do have a history of Syncope episodes - I have extremely low blood pressure, which causes me to faint. While I am unconscious, I have sort of a seizure - that's how it been described to me anyway.

So, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this severe of a reaction. It took about 40 minutes in total, and then it was done.

oh sweetie, yes, that sounds like some of the more horrific reactions that I have had... I have the seizures when I get glutened, and have fainted too... not fun. scary that you were home by yourself, and hope you feel better soon.

Thanks ladies. When I came to, my poor cat was standing outside of the bathroom door looking freaked out, and genuinely concerned for me.

I really hope this is the last of those reactions that I have.

And just when I was doing really well - WHAM - I get slammed by CC... Now I get to look forward to a week of fogginess, dizziness, nausea, and feeling like total crap. Oh yeah.

Poor thing--hope this is the last of that! I have never had a seizure, but have passed out several times. Two of which were post-bathroom. I think the pushing, sitting and then standing helps cause the fainting sometimes...and definitely with the blood pressure. One of these times happened in front of my dh (boyfriend at the time) and his two roommates. One of them thought I was pretending to be drunk b/c of how I was walking down the hall before I passed out--calling dh's name. They figured it out once I dropped!

I had a similar episode a while ago and couln't figure out what i had eaten to cause it. Then several people at work had the same thing, so i guess it was a stomach bug, not gluten.

Hi Carrie--I had a very similar thing happen to me Saturday night, also. I went to bed around 10 and about 1 AM woke up with stomach cramps. I ended up in the bathroom with D, gas (bad) and cramping that lasted for around 45 minutes or so. I felt nauseous, but did not throw up. Finally went back to bed feeling dizzy and exhausted. Yesterday (Sunday) I woke up a little lightheaded still, and crampy. By the afternoon, I felt much better. In my case, I don't think it was gluten related--I continue to feel fine (gluten will last 5-10 days) and my husband had much the same (but somewhat milder) symptoms. We think it was something else we both ate. Hope you are feeling better soon!

That's how my reactions would come out before I got dx'd. I didn't have seizures, but the fainting and everything else. After I quit the gluten, it stopped. The only time it started back was when my appendix started acting up. After they took it out, everything was fine.

Hi Everyone,

I have yet to be tested but I suspect that I have celiac... I feel perfectly fine in the morning until I eat... within 30 minutes I start to feel hot, and I get dizzy... I also get headaches. I have frequent bouts of dizziness... It usually goes away after I burp a few dozen times... I think it might have something to do with alll the gas pressure i get when I eat. I am finally going on a gluten-free diet starting soon. Wish me luck... and good luck to everyone that is suffering with celiac disease!

Yeah, I passed out at the mall 20 minutes after having a "gluten free sucks, forget this!" bowl of pasta after being gluten-free for nearly a month. That was in Nov 2005. That was bad. I was in the hospital when I woke up! I hope you are feeling better!

I have a history of fainting/seizure, it isn't related to my celiac but it certainly could be aggravated by the dehydration. It took years to get a diagnosis. One elderly family doctor told me it was normal, "young girls faint. . .". I didn't have the heart to tell him young girls no longer wore corsets!
