Mike and Ikes are one of my favorite candies..and now the ingredients list "modified food starch" in them. I am heartbroken. unless the mysterious ingredient is gluten-free, Mike and Ikes aren't gluten-free anymore :(

Before you panic or panic anybody else you should call the company and ask. Here's the number.

Consumer Relations team toll-free at 1-888-645-3453.

Mike and Ike is made by JustBorn and everything or nearly everything they make is gluten-free. In addition, while it's true that MFS can be from wheat, it very rarely is.

Hi, I searched on the internet and also sent the company an e-mail...the company will write back and if you haven't called them yet, I'll post the response here. While searching the net, I came up with some webpage made on tripod that said that included Mike & Ike in a gluten-free candy list. I also found another list on the internet that said that Mike & Ike is gluten-free, but warned that although they know that the original is gluten-free, other variations might not be: Open Original Shared Link. Anyway, I don't consider those two site enough to go on...I'll post the response from the company regarding my question.

Thought was finished with this but a friend just sent email saying she takes Tirosin liquid levothyroxine which has no fillers (mentioned by Pgetha above).  Friend's doc sends script to one of Tirosin's direct-mail pharmacies.  Looking that up, government insurance (Medicare/Medicaid) doesn't cover (as Pgetha wrote above).  But if use one of their direct-mail places three month supply is $57/month.  Researching that, happened to learn Yaral also makes a generic gluten-free levothyroxine.

Lysine is helpful for "cold sores" (oral herpes).

As a life.long celiac, I understand this.  I simply ask that the medical profession stop disregarding the fact that it should remain a concern for some. It cost me a lot of medical discomforts.

@dmallbee, about 8% of celiacs react to the oat protein avenin like they do to the wheat protein gluten. In addition, there are some cultivars of oats that apparently do actually contain gluten.
