Ate Out Tonight

After we went to a nephew's first b'day party and a niece's baton solo we went out for supper. When I ordered I specifically told the waitress "Please do not give me any of the garlic bread, I can not eat anything with wheat, please write this on my ticket." She smiled and told me she did and left to take our order to the kitchen. She gave back a few seconds later and asked if I wanted my shrimp grilled or buttermilk battered? I smiled and politely said grilled I can not eat anything with wheat or wheat products. She left again but returned a few seconds later with my hubby's salad and placed it in front of me. She said I know you can not have bread but these are croutons. My hubby said that the salad is mine and the croutons are fine for me. She asked him if he would like my bread, he said sure and she brought it out for him. We are chuckling over this when my meal arrives. The grilled chicken looks tasty, the shrimp delicious, the plain potato fine, and the fresh steamed broccoli nice and green and covered with bread crumbs. I got her attention and asked if she could take my meal back to the kitchen and do something about the bread crumbs all over my plate. She left and returned a few minutes later with a new plate. It was fine and we ate and left. I chuckled because I found it so humorous.

Yeah, there's a lot of people that have NO idea what is in food. Unfortunately most of them work in restaurants.... I had to explain to someone what wheat is recently.

Oh my!! LOL!!! I highly suggest the Triumph Dining Cards (or some dining card that gets your point across). You just give them to your server or manager to take back to the chefs/cooks so that they understand the seriousness of your condition. I have been very pleased with how easy eating out has become with these cards now. Of course there is always a risk when eating out.

BTW, I don't work for Triumph Dining Cards or get paid by them, I just love their product!!

I love them, too! They make it easy.

Everyone knows white bread isn't made from wheat...that's why all the restaurants ask if you want wheat bread or white bread.

( I couldn't even type that with a straight face. :P )

Isn't it scary how some people eat that crap every day and never have the thought, "hmm. I wonder what white bread is made out of"

Or even what white flour is made out of...

"oh brave new world that has such people in it"

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
