So you've seen it? The only thing is the price...its $12.99 :o

I used to eat their cashew butter which was the same price but I dont do well with any nut butters not even that one.

Yep I saw it at Whole Foods in the little raw foods section. Pretty much everything in that section is over $12 so I didn't really notice the price :lol:

I might try some and eat it straight out of the jar lol. I really like coconut :)

Jersey,

Guess what....I went to the store tonight and I was just looking around and I saw a jar of coconut butter...I'd never seen this before. It's organic too! Only one ingredient organic raw coconut. OMG....it is soooo good. I probably ate too much like always but I didnt get the reaction I would normally get from other things with coconut in them. I wont give it a thumbs up though until I've eaten the whole jar and not reacted. Gimme about a week and I'll let you know. :D

Rachel--That sounds really good! I'm a little scared of any coconut because that Kinesiologist that I saw a couple of years ago said that I was "allergic" to coconut. He's turned out to be right on so many things that I'm not going to experiment with coconut anymore. It's too bad, because it sounds delicious. Maybe that's also the reason I don't do well with regular shreaded coconut.

Mango,

This is the suggestions it has on the jar

add to fruit smoothies, homemade energy bars, sauces and salad dressings. Make a fruit/coconut sorbet. Mix with cacao nibs and agave; then freeze into cubes for a cold treat.

Hmm...that sounds yummy.

If you really like coconut you're gonna love this stuff. :D

Thanks for the info Rachel. I'm definitely going to try that stuff.

So about mouth blisters...

:angry::(:wacko:

I have crazy problems at the moment. I went to the dentist (again) yesterday and they gave me anesthetic (again) and insisted they had to give me the kind with epinephran (sp? again) and I broke out in crazy amounts of mouth blisters. Is that normal? There's so many of them and they hurt...

I don't know about coconut butter but organic coconut oil is good for candida, bacteria and viruses.

Really? Hmmm I wouldn't mind trying the coconut oil too but what do you use it on?

It's a really healthy oil to cook with. You can melt it and use it instead of butter when you bake stuff too. You can pop popcorn in it. Stir frys are good with coconut oil.

I keep a jar in my bathroom too. You can also use it as a moisterizer for your skin and as a lip balm and alllll sorts of other things.

abbiekir,

I love those Alexia Fries. So sorry they made you sick :(

All of the varieties have different ingredients (i.e. dextrose, maltodextrin, autolyzed yeast extract, some even have dairy which may be an issue). I try to stick with the Yukon Gold Julienne variety because they have the least added ingredients: Yukon Gold Potatoes, Canola Oil and/or Sunflower Oil, Sea Salt.

What a find Rachel! I have tried coconut milk but every brand I've found always has something added in it like guar gum. I hope you continue to be reaction free with the coconut butter!

Hi Julie,

I am not totally convinced that it was the Alexia Fries- I had gone to Ohio to visit relatives and while there I think when I ate out at a restaurant I may have eaten something with gluten and you know how sometimes you don't get reactions for a long time...... So I am going to try to give the Yukon Gold Potatoes a try again and keep my fingers and intestines crossed :)

As with everything in life I just try to take one day at a time. One thing with celiac is everyday can be different so even though you feel crumy one day you never what tomorrow will bring.

Wow thanks everyone for the suggestions I have to go to the grocery store today and coconut oil will be on my list!

Hi Rachel,

Sooo, when you get these mouth sores does the whole inside of your mouth feel swollen ? I'm not sure if I actually have mouth sores or if I am just biting the insides of my mouth because it is swollen. Salt appears to be a problem for me too. But not on any regular basis.

No, my whole mouth doesnt feel swollen...I usually just feel a blister with my tongue or happen to see it in the mirror. There is no pain from the blisters. Sometimes the blister or the area where its located may feel a little sore from stuff rubbing against it or when the blister breaks and the skin is irritated. The blisters are very visible...usually they're dark blood filled blisters...occassionally they're white with no blood.

Rachel, I'm glad you asked this question. My Daughter who is 6 years old and was diagnosed 1 year ago with gastritis has mouth sores. I think her diagnosis isn't right. I'm taking her to a gastro specialist to have her tested for Celiac in July. I didn't realize the mouth sores could be from gluten. I don't get them but like everyone says we are all different.

Anyway Thanks

Kris

Interesting ...hubby used to get those mouth sores often before going gluten-free. Now I see the connection.

Does anyone know if blisters like this are normal after dental work? Not to change the subject but...we rarely stick to a subject so...

I know I'm really sensitive to the anesthetic they used on me yesterday. I keep telling them and they don't believe me. I have blisters all over my mouth right now. I'm afraid if I tell them about the blisters they'll just say that happens to everyone and inject me some more <_< I do have to go back at least one more time. It's annoying because they do have an anesthetic that doesn't have the allergen in it, but it's just not as convenient for them to use, so they don't like to listen to me when I say the other stuff makes me sick. grr.

Mango...I dunno.

I had posted on another thread (I think it was yours) that the anesthetic they used on me almost 4 years ago caused me to feel really weird and I was afraid of it after that but the dentist used lots of it on me again even though I asked him not to. I was more afraid of the anesthetic than of any pain I might feel w/out it.

I didnt get any blisters back then but I know sulphites cause them now. I was reading different stories that people with sulphite sensitivivty had written. More than one of them talked about the anesthetics containg sulpher compounds. One girl had her entire illness/sensitivity triggered by the anesthitic the dentist used.

It defintately made me think because I've been saying since the beginning that my troubles started only after the dental work I'd had done. I dont really know whats what but I can almost guarantee that if I had to have the anesthetic again it would be WAY worse than what I experienced before.

Mango04 Enthusiast

Thanks Rachel. I was too lazy to search for my "I hate the dentist" thread so I posted here instead.

That's how afraid I am of the anesthetic too. I almost start crying everytime they inject me with it  They think I'm scared of the pain from the needle even though I've explained over and over that that's not what bothers me.

That's really scary about it triggering illnesses and sensitivity. It really makes sense though. I think I'm so in tune to my own sensativities now that I'm really aware of all the horrible things the anesthetic is currently doing to my body. Like when my head pounds and I'm dizzy and shaky and disoriented and there's blisters all over my mouth I know something is not right . Okay people are probably sick of hearing me rant about the dentist, so I'll stop now B) The whole thing has just been a big shock to my system. I think I'll make a big fuss and refuse to let them give that stuff to me again. Thanks for the info.

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Mango,

Defintaely....you know your body better than anyone and if its telling you somethings not right with all these blisters and symptoms....well obviously somethings not right. Dont let them tell you you're wrong....if they wont listen go to a different dentist who will listen.

Wow, that's alot of info, Thanks!!!! I had my intake with Nutrionist where we went over basics and then will have follow up where we will talk about all the questions I've come up with (including the fiber question and so many more). I'll talk to her about the info you provided as well.  Thanks again (newbie here 😀)

Hello again. Thank you for the responses to date. I have had several follow-ups and wanted to share what I’ve learned. About a month after my initial blood test and going gluten free, my TtG went from 8.1 to 1.8. I have learned that my copper is low and my B6 is high. My other vitamins and nutrients are more or less in range. After I glutened myself on 10/24, I have been strict about being gluten free - so about a month. I have been eating dairy free and low FODMAP as well because it’s what my stomach allows. Baked fish, potatoes, rice, etc. Whole foods and limited Whole foods. I have continued to lose weight but it has slowed down, but a total of about 15 pounds since I went gluten free. Along with stomach pain, my symptoms included nausea, body and joint pain, a burning sensation throughout my body and heart rate spikes. I still have them but I have them less now. These are the symptoms that led to my doctor appointments and subsequent diagnosis. I also did the DNA screening and was positive. So, at this point, the answer is yes, I have celiac. I have two questions for this group. Any ideas on why my enteropathy was so severe (marsh 3B) and my TtG was so minimal? Is that common? Or are there other things to consider with that combo? And this recovery, still having pain and other symptoms a month later (7 weeks gluten free and 4 weeks after the glutening) normal? I’m going to continue down this path of bland foods and trying to heal but would love to understand the reasons for the long journey. I read so much about people who stop eating gluten and feel amazing. I wish that was my experience but it certainly hasn’t been. Thank you again!

@Trish G,  I like dates, they have lots if fiber as well.  But what I found helped most was taking Thiamine (in the form Benfotiamine which helps promote intestinal healing), Pyridoxine B 6, Riboflavin B 2, and magnesium, and Omega Three fats. The absorption of nutrients is affected by Celiac disease which damages the intestinal lining of the small intestines where our nutrients are absorbed.  If you have constipation, where your body is rather pushing your food away and not interacting with it, the nutrients in the food are not being released and absorbed.  You can develop deficiencies in all the vitamins and minerals necessary for the body to function properly.   The B vitamins cannot be stored for long, so they must be replenished daily.  Thiamine B 1 stores can run out in as little as three days.  Constipation (or diarrhea or alternating) is one of the first symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  Thiamine needs magnesium, Pyridoxine B 6, and Riboflavin B 2 to make the intestinal tract function.  Thiamine and Niacin make digestive enzymes.  Thiamine provides the energy for nerve impulses to carry messages to the brain and back about digestion.  Thiamine provides the energy for the muscle contractions which move your food through the digestive tract. High calorie meals containing lots of starches and sugars can deplete thiamine stores quickly because more thiamine is required to turn them into energy.   Are you taking any vitamin and mineral supplements?  Correction of malnutrition is very important in Celiac disease.  Thiamine, the other B vitamins and magnesium will help with constipation better than adding more fiber.  What did your nutritionist recommend you take, besides just the fiber? The association between dietary vitamin B1 intake and constipation: a population-based study https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11100033/ Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/ Association between dietary vitamin B6 intake and constipation: a population-based study https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11584952/

@kpf, Were you eating ten grams or more of gluten daily in the month preceding your antibody blood tests? TTg IgA antibodies are made in the intestines.  Ten grams of gluten per day for several weeks before testing is required to provoke sufficient antibody production for the antibodies to leave the intestines and enter the blood stream and be measured in blood tests. If you had already gone gluten free or if you had lowered your consumption of gluten before testing, your results will be inaccurate and inconclusive.   See link below on gluten challenge guidelines. Have you had any genetic testing done to see if you carry genes for Celiac disease?  If you don't have genes for Celiac, look elsewhere for a diagnosis.  But if you have Celiac genes, you cannot rule out Celiac disease. You mentioned in another post that you are vegetarian.  Have you been checked for nutritional deficiencies?  The best sources of the eight essential B vitamins are found in meats.  Do you supplement any of the B vitamins as a vegetarian? Deficiency in Thiamine Vitamin B 1 is strongly associated with anemia which can cause false negatives on antibody tests.  Fatigue, numbness or tingling in extremities, difficulty with coordination, headaches and anemia are strongly associated with thiamine deficiency.  Other B vitamins that contribute to those symptoms are Riboflavin B 2, Pyridoxine B 6, Folate B 9 and B12 Cobalamine.  The eight B vitamins all work together with minerals like magnesium and iron.  So your symptoms are indicative of B vitamin deficiencies.  You can develop vitamin and mineral deficiencies just being a vegetarian and not eating good sources of B vitamins like meat.  B vitamin deficiencies are found in Celiac due to the malabsorption of nutrients because the lining of the intestines gets damaged by the antibodies produced in response to gluten.

Thanks, I'm not a big fan of prunes but did add them back after stopping the Benefiber. Hoping for the best while I wait to hear back from Nutritionist for a different fiber supplement.  Thanks again
