Hi all,

I stopped by today and they were gracious enough to give me a photocopy of their gluten-free menu. There's not as much variation as I had hoped for, but it's nice to know that there's one place near work I can go for a safe meal. Anyway, here's what they've got:

Appetizers:

Feta Cheese with Tomato and Olives... 5.45

Side Orders:

Tossed Mixed Green Salad... 5.75

Lettuce and Tomatoes... 3.25

French Fries or baked Potato... 3.00

Fresh Fruit Salad... 3.95

Cantaloupe... 3.95

Eggs and Omelettes (No toast, served with home fries or french fries)

Three Fresh Eggs, any style... 5.95

Three Egg Whites, scrambled or omelette style... 5.95

Swiss cheese or feta cheese or mozzarella cheese omelette... 7.95

Nova Scotia Smoked Salmon and Onion omelette... 12.75

Mushroom and onion omelette... 7.95

Broccoli and mushroom omelette... 7.95

Spinach and tomato omelette... 7.95

Burgers (No bun), Deluxe 2.00 Extra with lettuce, tomatoes and french fries

Charcoal broiled hamburger... 6.45

Cheeseburger, except American cheese... 7.25

Turkey burger... 6.45

Pizza burger with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella cheese... 8.75

Smoked Fish Platters (No bagel, served with lettuce, tomato, and onion)

Nova Scotia Smoked Salmon... 18.95

Smoked Whitefish... 17.50

Combination platter... 20.95

Salads (Salads served with oil and balsamic vinegar)

Greek Salad... 10.45

Poached North Atlantic Salmon over Organic Mesclun Greens... 12.95

Grilled portabella mushroom with mixture of organic Mesclun greens, fresh mozzarella and hard boiled eggs... 12.95

Dinner Entree (Served with potato and vegetable of the day)

Broiled Salmon... 14.75

NY Cut Sirloin Steak... 21.95

Prime Chopped Sirloin steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms... 14.95

Roumanian Tenderloin steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms... 19.95

Desserts:

Fresh fruit... 3.95

Rice pudding... 3.25

Someone had previously mentioned that eventually they were looking to get gluten-free bread, so hopefully that will expand the offerings a bit. But for now, here's what Bloom's has to offer us!

I enjoyed eating there a few years ago and so did my Father (he had gluten food, though).

How funny, I ate there yesterday! What time were you there?

I had the pizza burger, and we can have the fries. The menu isn't huge, but I'm just happy not to have to explain my food to anyone and worry whether they know what they're doing.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
