ok i love fruit smoothies and am looking for new recepies, someone has sujested putting raw carrot in them which im doing tommorow after my trip to the shops. anyone have any hints? i really want to try new ones, low fat please and also dairy free. thanx.

we would do tropical juice with frozen mangos and protein powder but i don't like smoothies so....................

I like banana and strawberry. I've also done banana, honey and vanilla - it was pretty tasty! I just put the fruit in with some ice and a little liquid, I use almond milk but you could do any milk-type or just juice.

My daughter (who obviously was a mad scientist in a previous lifetime) concocts almost anything, last night it was watermelon and kiwi. Oh - head's up - kiwi and pineapple look like vomit :o might be good for a Halloween party...

banana, orange, and blackberry is a good combo.

this morning was banana, mango, pineapple, strawberry, and coconut milk.

I also like pumpkin, banana, cinnamon, nutmueg, vanilla, and a milk sub.

there's no limit!

That sounds awesome! Reminds me of the pumpkin Jamba Juice smoothie I always used to order during my soy eating days....

I probably use 1 cup or so, but I make 1L smoothies ;-)

start with that and add more to taste? ;-)

good tip tiffany but have you ever done raw veg in them like potatoe or butternut squash or put cocunut in them, ive not tried them but quite like the idea of them but the thought of waisting all that fruit would drive me insane, ( im a chicken really ) if i didnt like it. i suppose i could use soy or rice milk( lactose intoerant ). oh and i have tried it with soy dairy free yogurt and it was lush.

I've never made one that I wasn't willing to drink. :-)

I haven't done raw veggies (well, other than carrot juice, but I usually abhor using juice over whole foods), just because I'm in a hurry in the morning, and go with what I know. (I should note that I always add protein powder to my smoothies due to hypoglycemic tendencies, though I didn't note that in the recipes.)

I freeze all my friut - bananas, strawberries, peaches - then blend apple juice with the frozen fruit. It's very easy, and there's no ice to water down the flavor.

Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

      The one kind of food I had been buying and eating without any worry for hidden gluten were unprocessed veggies. Well, yesterday I discovered yet another pitfall: cultivated mushrooms. I tried some new ones, Shimeji to be precise (used in many asian soup and rice dishes). Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.
