Has anyone had an aphthous ulcer in their mouth/on their gum? I heard one can get this with celiac.

Yes, I have but my DD got them much worse. They covered her tonsils. These went away gluten-free for both of us.

Yes, my daughter got them all the time before we knew she was celiac. She hasnt had one since we started gluten-free diet 2 years ago

I've had them ever since I was a kid, usually on lip sometimes the gum once on the uvula. I'd always get them in the winter around Xmas. My brother too. Mom blamed it on sugar, but now I think it was because we were eating a lot more wheat products that time of the year.

I've had awful ones since I was a teenager. I always thought I was getting them from eating something too acidic. Now I know better. I got glutened last week and broke out in mouth ulcers within 12 hours.

I have had them since I was a child too. I had a couple of them so bad they had to be treated by cauterization with silver nitrate. (not sure if they do that anymore) Now, I know when I have had gluten -the first thing I get is tongue and mouth sores, then D.

Me too! Now they are a way of telling if I've been mildly glutened. PS I hate them!!!

      Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

      What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.

      Shingles is dormant and related to chicken pox when one has had in the past.Shingles comes out when stress is heightened.I had my 3rd Shingles in 2023.
