3 Year Old Sons Igg Positive, But Not Iga. Advice?

Hey everyone,

I am looking for advice.

My son just turned 3 about 2 weeks ago. He has always been in about the 5th percentile until recently when he is now below the 3rd percentile. The doctor ordered several blood tests as well as a bone age test. The bone age test came back normal, but the IGG test came back low. He didn't remember the exact numbers, but he said it was low. The IGA came back normal. So we have an appt with a gastrotologist in Sept (we are hoping to get in sooner though). We also have an appt with an endocronologist on the 24th of this month. The other test that was "grossly abnormal" was his IGF test. From experience, does anyone have advice as to if this is celiac or not. I wonder what the chances are that it is a false positive. As far as sympotms he has diarrhea a couple of times a week. That is about it. The weird thing is my daughter also gets diarrhea a couple of times a week, as do I. I even went to the doctor for my problem, but I couldn't really pinpoint what makes me have it. It seems so random. Anyway, to add to all of this we are moving to Scotland in the beginning of October from Arizona, so we would really like to find out before we leave. I don't think having celiac would make a difference, but if the hormone problem is something that needs hormone shots, we need to find out ASAP. I don't know how that will be taken care of in Scotland.

Any ideas, advice, comments, or anything are very welcomed.

Thanks,

Cari

Cari, do you really want to wait until September? It sounds to me that your whole family could benefit from being gluten-free.

Testing in children under five is highly unreliable through the traditional methods. If you want testing done fast, reliable and convenient, you should get your son, daughter and yourself tested by Enterolab (in the US some insurance companies even pay for it). It's expensive, but worth it. Open Original Shared Link

are you talking about total serum levels being low, or the IgG levels for a specific test?

mom2crazykids Newbie

Crissy- I don't know what exact tests were done, all I know is he had abnormal results for his IgG. I didn't know it matter what tests were ordered.

Ursula- My ped office is trying to get him in earlier. I should know soon if he got an earlier appt. I am still considering using Enterolab. Thanks for recommending it.

Sorry for being off topic, but my 16 yr old sister just read your post, and she is so excited that you spell your name like hers! She's only met one other Cari before, and it was the person that she was named after.

Back on topic:

I hope your son gets an earlier appt. I have heard good things about Enterolab, and I myself am considering using it for my cousins kids. Good luck with everything.

Danielle

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
