Hi, Could someone please help me? I've been gluten free since June 1 and I really was feeling good. I been really vigilent about keeping it out of my diet, been gluttened a few times, I just about have a break down now cause when I get glutten I have neroulogical problems, but the worse is the irritabiltiy!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really does a number in my brain, I swear my brain swells when I get the stuff. Anyways the last 2 months I've had this stomach ache that won't go away. I thought that maybe it was dairy so I've eliminated that this last Monday, and put in soy milk instead. Now I have this huge headach and I feel gluttened. The package says Its FREE of lactose dairy cholestral, gluten, casein, peanuts,MSG, and worries. Its taste great called Silk for coffee. Question can soy cause the same neurological stuff as glutten? Right now if someone looks at me wrong I'm going to bite there head off. <_< Any help would be apprechiated, the doctors are no help, just hand you a pill for acid reflux!!!! And can't seem to find a doctors that knows anything about the effects that glutten has on a person brain.

Thanks Patricia :)

Soy will cause worse reactions than gluten for me, at least it used to. I don't know if it can cause neurological problems. I'd cut the soy and try rice milk or almond milk.

I find that soy will give me the same symptoms that I get when I am glutened. Makes shopping a nightmare, takes me so long to read all the labels.

Hi again, thank-you for your responses. I just spent the last 3 days in bed because of headach stomach problems. I've continue to read and I found someone suggested reading Food Intolerance- Man and animal verses gluten, casien, soy, and corn. I thought that it was a book, and looked in the library for it, then last night while looking for this I finally found it!!!!! It all came together for me, thank the lord. I am so discouraged with doctors, they have been no help at all. I have neurological problems of unknowen origin, now I know what has caused all these mental issues, plus the neuro problems. My cousin is going through the same thing right now. They think she has parkenson (age 41 dx'ed) now they think MS, I'm trying to tell her that its the food she eats, nobody listens, my family thinks I'm crazy, they are for not seeing the whole picture. I'm sooooo thankful I found this board and then found this article. Today I started the GARD diet, I'm feeling really optimistic that this will help me. Thank-you again Patricia :)

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
