How Do I Know If It's Just A Cold

I'm a newbie; I've been gluten-free for nearly a month now. I was feeling great for the first couple of weeks, then I started getting sick. It's runny nose, watery eyes, congestion kind of thing which would normally make me think I've got a cold, but no one I know is sick and I generally don't get colds very often. And it's summer! :) Ya just don't get a cold in the summer; at least I don't.

I think I've been eating well - although I have been eating out frequently due to the amount of work related travel I do, I've been very careful and I don't think I've had an issue yet. Well, there was once with some wheat flour in the pinto beans, but I figured that one out pretty quickly and won't do that again.

How do I know if it's just a cold? Do some people get sinus-y type issues with gluten? Maybe I'm just getting weaned from the gluten after my first month?

Thanks!

I´ve just spoken to someone else about this on another thread.

I think we tend to think everything we suffer is related to gluten and forget that there are lots of other little devils out there that can make us sick.

Sorry I can´t answer your question as such but I tend to get colds in summer and they are much worse than the ones I get in wintertime.

does it match your normal glutening symptoms? if not, it's probably not gluten.

there isn't a really good way to know, but if you're taking lots of risks on the food your eating, you may find yourself more susceptible to bugs.

as for getting a cold in the summer... we've got something similar knocking people down at work left and right at the moment. :P oh, and you said you've been traveling... maybe no one you know is sick, but any of the people you've interacted with in your travels may have been.

I, too, am sick with a "summer bug"! Seems so weird. My daughter as well, and both our doctors are saying they're seeing a lot of this chest, coughy, bronchial sinusy stuff lately! It's a particularly nasty one, too. I hope you feel better. Sometimes that old adage, "when you hear hoofbeats, think horses" actually makes sense. We're on the East Coast. Get well!

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.
