Has anyone had experience with this company? My doc has recommended a Celia Gene test to determine if there is a family history. My blood work is positve and the biopsy is negative. My GI doc does not recognize gluten intolerance, but family doc is up on the latest research. I am thinking of just going gluten free and skipping this $480 test that isn't covered by insurance. Family history: My mother has an ilieostomy from severe ulcerative colitis. Also has skin form of lupus. My father died from complications after 5 surgeries in a week for a severe intestinal blockage. His autopsy stated undiagnosed diverticulitis and ruptured diverticulum. I have been treated for IBS since high school (over 30 years) with minimal results. I also have GERD and Barrett's Esophagus. My sister has some suspicious problems, as well - mainly ulcers in her mouth that nobody can clear up and yeast infections. Any insight would be appreciated.

Positive bloodwork is a positive diagnosis. A biopsy can only rule celiac in, not out, since damage can be patchy or further down the intestine than the scope can reach. I say go gluten-free and skip the expensive gene test unless you need it for peace of mind.

Thanks! I am reading up on going gluten free and looking forward to it. My husband thinks it is a great idea, and said he will be supportive. I was worried he might think it was a crazy whim, but he really respects the family doc for turning us on to the research. I have just lost 12 pounds on weight watchers and I asked if they have info about adapting to gluten free. The teacher suggested the core program which is mainly meat, fruit and veggies. It sounds like it should work. Thanks for the encouragement. Glad to hear your test went well, too.

What a co-inkidink...I'm on WW, too! It's very easily adapted to gluten-free, and I eat flex, not core. It's really easy, actually. Core might be easier for you in the beginning of being gluten-free, while you're learning about what is and isn't gluten-free. I'd reccommend Tinkyada pasta, it's made from brown rice and has the same points value as normal pasta, it's tasty, and it's core!

If you still want to have the gene test done, enterolab does a gene test plus the whole gluten panel for $369. It incluedes ttg and malabsorption and maybe still dairy. They probably offer the gene testing separate. Check out their website Open Original Shared Link.

my son was tested by promethius because he is IgA deficient. we are enrolled in a celiac study and all of our family will be gene tested. i really want to know who has the genes----then i will know who needs to be tested on a regular basis to see if celiac has become activated.

      Hello, just popped in my head to ask this question about medications and celiac? I have always had refurse reaction to meds since I can remember  of what little meds my body is able to tolerate. I was taking gabapentin 300mg for a week,  in past I believe 150? Any ways it amps me up not able to sleep, though very tired.However I did notice it helped with my bloating sibo belly.I hate that my body is that sensitive and medical doesn't seem to take seriously. Im STILL healing with my skin, eye, and now ms or meningioma ( will know in April  which)and dealing with this limbo nightmare. I did write my name, address ect on the reclamation but im not tech savvy and not sure if went through properly. I called my city representative in Stanislaus County and asked if theres a physical paper i can sign for proclamation for celiac and she had no clue about what I was saying, so I just said I'll go back on website.

      I'm not saying that some celiacs won't need it, but it should be done under a doctor's supervision because it can cause lots of problems in some people.

      I also noticed I get debilitating migraines when I smell gluten, wheat and its not taken seriously when it affects one in every way.Im still begging to properly be heard.I also noticed tolerance level is down the drain with age and life changes. I have been told by incompetent medical that im not celiac or that sensitive. Diagnosed in 1994 by gi biopsy gluten-free ever since along with other lovely food allergies. Prayers

      trents:  Why some can tolerate european bread but not american bread.     I take 600 mcg a day.  Right in the middle of the safe range.   Groups at Risk of Iodine Inadequacy Though though the NIH does not specifically list Celiac Disease in this group, they state: "Iodide is quickly and almost completely absorbed in the stomach and duodenum. Iodate is reduced in the gastrointestinal tract and absorbed as iodide [2,5]."  That would certainly include malabsorption of Iodine due to Celiac Disease with resultant Iodine Deficiency.
