Around the flint area I know of 2 dr's. Neither are gi dr's. One is an allergist Gale Cookingham (allergy and intolerances) and one is a specialty clinic that is not covered under insurance.

In regards to the specialty clinic- She is a md, she has a clinic that deals with holistic medicine. Both were recommended by enterolab. The only gi dr's around here only follow the old method of celiac diagnosis.

For the ladies in the lansing area, Where do you shop at? What health food stores do you use? Where I live there is only one small one, they can order some things but they are costly. I love the personal touch since we have been shopping there since I was a little girl buying popcorn and vitamins ( he was the first in the area to sell them).

Im taking a trip to ann arbor soon to go to whole foods and Im excited to have lots of variety.

Whole Foods has some good stuff (love the pizza crust and sandwhich bread) but you might also want to go to Hillers (in Arborland). They carry a lot of Celiac Specalties items and some other major brands too.

They are litterally right down the street from each other. Whole Foods is at Washtenaw and Huron Parkway, HIller is in the ARborland mall on Washtenaw, just a bit west the US23 exit.

I am originally from Michigan, have lived on Long Island, New York now for almost 2 yrs--I love it here, but miss my Michigan family and friends. I lived in the middle of the mitten--Gratiot County, Ashley to be specific. I am going to Michigan on vacation in the next month or so. There is a great store in Lansing on the east side called Food For Life--it's on Grand River by Circuit City, I believe. Kroger stores have a fairly good gluten free area too, at least the one in St Johns does.

Guest AutumnE

Thanks I'll have to check it out. I do shop at kroger and meijer's. Meijer's has quite a few cake mixes and goodies cheaper than kroger or the health food store.

I was born and raised in Clinton Township (Detroit suburb) and lived in Ann Arbor for 4 years GO BLUE! I now live in Washington DC but take trips back to MI all the time. I'll be up there mid-July and plan to hit the bakery in Royal Oak--Sugar Kisses. They have gluten-free items and vegan stuff too!

Anyone hear of a pizza place in Detroit? My sister heard Mojo in the Morning talking about it on her way to work but she couldn't really remember the name. Belicio or something... Anyone?? I miss pizza parlor pizza. :(

There was a Belcibo, but I think it closed down. I'd really recommend Guillo's Itallian in the Livonia area. Pasta, breadsticks and pizza I think. Very yummy. Kind of a nicer place, but you could bring kids too. But plan to enjoy a leisurely meal, it's not fast.

If you're coming to Ann Arbor area, Stadium Market has both regular and gluten-free pizza.

Hi....I'm from the Flint area. I lived in Durand for 11 years when I was young and stupid. We got a good deal on a house back then. I about died of boredom in Shiawassee co. It was good to move back home.

I get most of my gluten-free goodies at Meijer's Kroger's and Dale's Health foods. There are no gluten-free restaurants close to me.

Is there a digestive enzyme that helps build a healthier gut? I see people taking them but not sure what really works
    • trents
So the tTG-IGA at 28 is positive for celiac disease. There are some other medical conditions that can cause elevated tTG-IGA but this is unlikely. There are some people for whom the dairy protein casein can cause this but by far the most likely cause is celiac disease. Especially when your small bowel lining is "scalloped". Your Serum IGA 01 (aka, "total IGA") at 245 mg/dl is within normal range, indicating you are not IGA deficient. But I also think it would be wise to take your doctor's advice about the sucraid diet and avoiding dairy . . . at least until you experience healing and your gut has had a chance to heal, which can take around two years. After that, you can experiment with adding dairy back in and monitor symptoms. By the way, if you want the protein afforded by dairy but need to avoid casein, you can do so with whey protein powder. Whey is the other major protein in dairy.

hi, i want to say thank you to you and @trents   . after 2 phone calls to my GI, her office called me back to tell me that a blood test was “unnecessary” and that we should “follow the gold standard” and since my biopsy did not indicate celiac, to follow the no dairy and sucraid diet. i luckily have expendable income and made an appt for the labcorp blood test that day. i just got my results back and it indicates celiac disease i think 😭   im honestly happy bc now i KNOW and i can go gluten free. and i am SO MAD at this doctor for dismissing me for a simple blood test that wouldn’t have cost her anything !!!!!!!!!!! im sorry, im so emotional right now, i have been sick my whole life and never knew why, i feel so much better already   my results from labcorp:   Celiac Ab tTG TIgA w/Rflx Test Current Result and Flag Previous Result and Date Units Reference Interval t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA 01 28 High U/mL 0-3 Negative 0 - 3 Weak Positive 4 - 10 Positive >10 Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have demonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity for gluten sensitive enteropathy. Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 01 245 mg/dL 87-352

      Thank you this really helped.

Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.
