Do I Sound Glutened To You?

I need some feedback from those who know me well and some who don't (for more objectivity) because I am trying to distinguish between this feeling I have now and a gluten reaction (I'll explain why at the end).

Now:

  • headache
    face/jaw/neck feel stiff
    eyes feel half open
    COLD (really really cold)
    nauseous
    back, joint pain
    little "hive" above right eye
    moody
    exhausted but restless
    breasts very painful!
    night sweats varying in intensity
    noxious gas
    constipated

DEFINITIVELY recognized gluten reaction:

headache

no facial stiffness

brain fog

clumsy

cold (really really cold)

nausea/vomiting

back pain

hive above right eye

too out of it to be moody until a few days later

exhausted

soaking night sweats

sulfur-smelling gas

constipated and bloated.

The reason I'm asking is because reaction # 1 is the feeling I had while living in my apartment often and reaction #2 I KNOW is gluten.

Reaction #1 HURTS a lot more than gluten. I just feel like my whole body hurts. I have not knowingly eaten any legume product.

I feel AWFUL and it's freaking me out. Admittedly, I was in the apartment Saturday and yesterday. Ugh!

If you always had that reaction in the apt. and you were in the apt., then I would say it's probably the apt. You're not crazy!!

Thanks Carla- I feel like pooop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just nervous. About a lot of things. My biggest concern now is that our stuff is being moved Friday into our new place and I'm worried that whatever was in the apt. will come with it. We are ditching the sofas, curtains and anything fabric that can't be washed or dry cleaned EXCEPT the bed because we just can't afford all new furniture.

Sorry you feel so bad. I wish you lived closer, we have beds coming out of our ears!!! I have no idea how we ended up with so many beds, but we have plenty!! I would be sure to wipe down everything that can be wiped down as you bring it in. It definately sounds like that place was toxic for you.

Did you test for airborne mold in the apartment? If it was an old building or had plumbing leaks or roof leaks in the past, it could be mold that was airborne. I had it in my house & had half the back of the house torn out & replaced. & believe me the insurance company would not have paid for it, if the mold was not bad and in fact airborne - they can measure how much it is. I never walked back in my kitchen when I got the results.

If it is mold, you would need to clean all your things with a bleach solution, like wipe down everything, get gloves, so you do not mess up your skin with the bleach. Run all your dishes thru the dishwasher etc.

also, if an apartment was someone in the next apartment smoking? I am highly allergic to cigarette smoke & could not live in an apartment where people were smoking, it gets thru the walls & air filter systems somehow.

Bev..dang, was hoping it was ALL the apt and still could be. I think you could have residual effects of being in there over the weekend..really i do.

also , my personal stress can really make ANY bad food contact more agravated by it. Oh, not making sense tonight..sorry

did you do the mold airborn test..seems like a good idea

I know you can't afford new stuff for apt but i'd only take what you have to have and go curtain less...to see how you do there.

better put you back on my prayer list.

judy

AS Judy said....

Dang, Bev! I don't know.....can it be residul apartment stuff? Time will tell....so maybe that's the only way to know? Just give it a few more days and see? Wish you were feeling better, though, you have really had a rough time of it. Um, you're not preggers, are you? :o:ph34r::lol:

Yup, also putting you back on the prayer list...... :)

Beverly,

I think it is the residual effects....but who knows since that was this weekend.

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Well- the packing is done... we ditched as much as we could (1-800-Got-Junk was GREAT!!!!). I'm pretty sure it was mold as I was looking at the window sill in the bathroom today and it was mold and it was black. Also there are cracks in our bedroom ceiling, bathroom ceiling and kitchen sealing.

I read a bunch of stuff on decontaminatig your stuff from mold and I think it will be OK. All the dry cleaning if off to the dry cleaners, all the clothes will be washed and everything else disinfected. No curtain, no couches. The only thing that's fabric that we couldn't ditch was the bed and I am buying anti-allergen covers for mattress and boxspring tomorrow a.m. before the stuff arrives.

I think it may have been a combo of being in the apartment, stress and SOY. I thought I could tolerate soy lechithin but I CLEARLY can't.

I'll be off-liner for a bit until we get it hooked back up at our new abode but I'll try to check in at school when I'm there.

See you soon!!!!! Hugs and love to all, Beverly

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.
    • RMJ
That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
