Gah, 'tis so true. . . .. . ... ...... . ...Mass Slowdown in Psilly.. . .. . . ....

Well, I will interject with something my dad once said after he came home from work during an incredible cold snap that hit Ottawa many winters ago.

Hell, it's so cold out there that the flashers downtown are only describing themselves.. . . ...

Now that was psilly!!!! I haven't been online much because my pain has gotten worse and my son returned from his week away. I got to sneak a peak at his BF (that he has a BIG crush on) and she's adorable. It told him to say goodnight for me and she sweetly returned it. They were skyping. She has a boyfriend at home (Chicago). Evil mom here hopes that the distance makes it too hard and she and Tony become a couple. She's taking my son for a makeover. Also the friend he's going to room next year with is a neat freak so Tony said he thinks it will be good for him. BTW, Karrreeennnggg I've been making him do a lot more chores (only took me 19 years) laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif.

Can't wait to see the new GI next week. Went to get a new SS card yesterday and they said I should file the claim ASAP because it takes several months.

We're supposed to get 18 inches of snow tomorrow so I have to go to the market today. it should be a zoo there.

The wind chill temp is -6F here. I think the flashers would freeze their Popsicles off!

No, she's still shaking in NZ.

Nah, the last decent shake we had was Boxing Day (4.9) - ruined the Boxing Day sales 'cos everyone went running into the streets just after the shops opened their doors (hub got his TomTom though  , six minutes before :D ) We are separated from Australia by lots of water but it is the salty kind, not that red/brown stuff. Have friends in Toowoomba (who live on high ground) and my niece has her warehouse in Brisbane - but she sold it to her partner a few weeks ago and she is trying to unload her stock anyway :P because she's getting out of the domestic side of her business. Also sold her house in Brizzie and moved to Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast (way further north) just before Christmas :D . But the other poor blighters in Qld are having a pretty miserable time of it.

Barb, my erstwhile housesitter, got caught in a flash flood just before Christmas here on the South Island when a river she was driving beside burst its banks suddenly, and her Rav4 got spun around several times ending up in a ditch 100 meters down the road but right side up, fortunately, with water up to her waist almost whilst kneeling on her seat. T'was about 90 mins before they were rescued none the worse for wear (except the poor ole Rav4). This was from a remnant of one of the Queensland storms.

Sorry that none of this is very phunny stuph - seems not to be the psilly time of year.

So glad that you're far enough away from the horror in Queensland, Shroom! Very unpsilly, indeed, that... . . ...:(

Okay! Here is an excellent photo taken of DD yesterday by one of her good friends who has some cool features on her Mac camera. 'Tis quite a likeness, and I suggested she submit it for her informal yearbook photo:

Please tell me what I did wrong? I sent this email Monday night to the parents of the Robotics students when we found out we wouldn't have school. J also, sent all the kids a text that said the same thing.

Titled: Tue Robotics:

The school district says that we can start at 11. So tomorrow -CAPS center 11 am . Bring a lunch and a drink and maybe a snack and a water bottle. I asked until when and was told "until we are done".

I got an email back the next day from a parent, attached, as a reply, to my "Tue Robotics" email that said:

School district is closed so I assume there is no robotics, could you confirm

J got alot of kids calling him Tue afternoon, asking if we would have it in the evening.

J, the teacher, & I are clueless and frustrated.

Thank you for the rant.

No xray. There's nothing they can do for it anyway. I've done it twice before <_< Did you know that jumping into a pile of leaves arse first is NOT a soft landing.... I do

On the bright side, this is my new nephew Oswald. He came over last night to meet the kids, get acclimated. It was love at first sight on both sides. He loves Max. He's super sweet for a Chow-and a rescue!

Oh Ozzie is soooo sweet! I just want put my cold hands in all that lovely fur!

celiac-mommy Collaborator

He needs a bath, so you might want to wait :P They picked him up yesterday and the fur on his head is perfect, but the rest of his body is pretty matted and his flanks have huge stress spots :( He was a stray that no one claimed. My brother saw him online, his girlfriend fell in love, they went to see him immedietly and Ozzie ran right up to Shane, burried his nose in his knees and stayed there. They brought him home, he went right over to his new bed and layed down. Hasn't barked once, just smiles all the time. Melts your heart! I get to play with him tomorrow :D

Went birding yesterday . . . we're a hardy lot. Probably about 12 of us total with temps less than 10 degF and a windchill about 0. We're looking at going on a field trip next Saturday to an area where bald eagles roost . . . supposedly have the potential of seeing 80 to 100 bald eagles.

Went to PF Changs tonight . . . man I love that place.

I have no words.......except

ARE YOU NUTS????

BTW....what do you get at PFChangs? I've only been there once and did not like what I ordered.

The wind chill temp is -6F here. I think the flashers would freeze their Popsicles off!

I'm sure I would freeze something off at that temp....and I wouldn't have to be flashing. Perhaps that's why my boobies have refused to grow.....preservation

HOLY CRAP!!! Glad she's ok!

Trying to stay warm......Why do I live here????

Seeing an allergist, now. I don't tolerate much of anything these days. Haven't found any allergies yet except dust mites, so he took me off all grains (wasn't eating much anyways, but there goes my tortilla chips :( ) and beans. Things that dust mites could be habitating in. I don't think that's it. Next he wants me to try an organic diet.

Oh wow! Thanks for this information! I’m going to try the Benfotiamine again and will also add a B-complex to my supplements. Presently, I just take sublingual B12 (methylcobalomin). Is supplementation for celiacs always necessary even though you remain gluten-free and you’re healing as shown on endoscopy? I also take D3, mag glycinate, and try to get calcium through diet. I am trying to bump up my energy level because I don’t sleep very well and feel fatigued quite often. I’m now hopeful that adding the Benfotiamine and B-complex will help. I really appreciate your explanation and advice! Thanks again Knitty Kitty!

@Hmart, The reason why your intestinal damage was so severe, yet your tTg IgA was so minimal can be due to cutting back on gluten (and food in general) due to worsening symptoms.  The tTg IgA antibodies are made in the intestines.  While three grams of gluten per day for several weeks are enough to cause gastrointestinal symptoms, ten grams of gluten per day for for several weeks are required to provoke sufficient antibody production so that the antibodies move out of the intestines and into the blood stream where they can be measured in blood tests.  Since you reduced your gluten consumption before testing, the antibody production went down and did not leave the intestines, hence lower than expected tTg IgA.   Still having abdominal pain and other symptoms this far out is indicative of nutritional deficiencies.  With such a severely damaged small intestine, you are not absorbing sufficient nutrients, especially Thiamine Vitamin B 1, so your body us burning stored fat and even breaking down muscle to fuel your body.   Yes, it is a very good idea to supplement with vitamins and minerals during healing.  The eight essential B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost with diarrhea.  The B vitamins all work together interconnectedly, and should be supplemented together.  Taking vitamin supplements provides your body with greater opportunity to absorb them.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins cannot be stored for long, so they must be replenished every day.  Thiamine tends to become depleted first which leads to Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a condition that doctors frequently fail to recognize.  Symptoms of Gastrointestinal Beriberi are abdominal pain and nausea, but neuropathy can also occur, as well as body and joint pain, headaches and more.  Heart rhythm disruptions including tachycardia are classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  Heart attack patients are routinely administered thiamine now.   Blood tests for vitamins are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have "normal" blood levels, while tissues and organs are depleted.  Such is the case with Gastrointestinal Beriberi, a thiamine deficiency in the digestive tract.  Eating a diet high in carbohydrates, like rice, starches, and sugar, can further deplete thiamine.  The more carbohydrates one eats, the more thiamine is required per calorie to turn carbs into energy.  Burning stored fats require less thiamine, so in times of thiamine shortage, the body burns fat and muscles instead.  Muscle wasting is a classic symptoms of thiamine deficiency.  A high carbohydrate diet may also promote SIBO and/or Candida infection which can also add to symptoms.  Thiamine is required to keep SIBO and Candida in check.   Thiamine works with Pyridoxine B 6, so if Thiamine is low and can't interact with Pyridoxine, the unused B 6 accumulates and shows up as high.   Look into the Autoimmune Protocol diet.  Dr. Sarah Ballantyne is a Celiac herself.  Her book "The Paleo Approach" has been most helpful to me.  Following the AIP diet made a huge improvement in my symptoms.  Between the AIP diet and correcting nutritional deficiencies, I felt much better after a long struggle with not feeling well.   Do talk to your doctor about Gastrointestinal Beriberi.  Share the article linked below. Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/ Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks, that's a great addition that I hadn't thought of.
    • trents
Other diseases, medical conditions, medications and even (for some people) some non-gluten foods can cause villous atrophy. There is also something called refractory celiac disease but it is pretty uncommon.
    • trents
knitty kitty asks a very relevant question. So many people make the mistake of experimenting with the gluten free diet or even a reduced gluten diet soon before getting formally tested.
