Glutened/constipation

I've eaten some deli meats the past few weeks, don't remember any brand names. I've had really really bad constipation since then. Do any of you get constipated when you are glutened?

I've also started some new meds, bromocryptine for high levels of prolactin. It could be from that also. But I think it was the meat.

In the past I've had lots of diarrhea, but I think that was from the dairy that I was eating. I am both gluten and dairy intolerant now. So I don't eat any dairy and I stay away from gluten to the best of my ability. No more deli meat!

Yes, I get constipated (with mucous, ewwwww!) after my intestines start hurting and about the same time my joints start aching. I also get C if I eat one of the other foods I'm sensitive to.

I still can't believe I'm talking about poo with other people! You know you're a celiac when... B)

Medline Plus article on Open Original Shared Link.

It mentions constipation as a "less common" side effect.

Is your brand of bromocriptine gluten-free?

I've been trying to avoid deli meats too. It seems I'm more sensitive to MSG now, I used to be able to get away with a ham sandwich or a hot dog here or there but the brain slamming headaches are telling me otherwise. ;)

Was the deli meat the kind they slice for you? If so, it's possible that it was contaminated. If any of the meats that are sold at the deli contain gluten, the slicer will be contaminated. What kind of meat was it? Chicken and turkey can contain broth to "plump" it up which has gluten.

the only deli meats I'll eat are Boar's Head, they have no fillers. And I do ask them to clean the slicer & explain why. I try to do it either early morning or late evening so it;s not so much of a hassle for them.

Other than that I totally avoid deli meats/hot dogs

Go to www.hormel.com, FAQS, Alllergens, type in gluten free. They will have a listing of their gluten free deli meats, as well as many other gluten free products that their company has. :)

As far as I know and I have made severalonline searches, celiac disease disease has not been recognized as a cause of migraines or any eye problems. What I wrote must have been confusing.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
