Endoscopy Results

I had my endo today, and to my surprise the GI said that I have acid reflux. I have never had any issues with heartburn or anything related to it. He immediately prescibed nexium, but I am not in favor of taking medications if I can avoid it. I need to do some more research on reflux, I guess, so I can determine how necessary it is. I was out of it, so I didn't get to discuss it with him...he talked to my husband.

The GI did not see any evidence of celiac, so we'll just wait on the biopsy results and go from there. At least this is done so I can carry on with trying a gluten free diet!

He must have seen evidence of gastritus, which can be seen by having acid reflux.

I know that you are glad that it is over. Let us know about the biopsy reslts, and hope you are feeling better gluten free. :)

My doc said the same thing. I never took the drugs. I never felt a problem, and I figured changing my diet would help. I don't know if I made the right decision, but I wasn't impressed with my GI and I didn't see how one round of a drug could permanently fix my reflux. Granted, I didn't educate myself on it at all ...

Same thing here... only... I also have a hiatal hernia, which he kindly supplied me with a picture of. *BLECH*

I have been taking Prevacid daily....and feel a hellofalot better. I never had heartburn or any "obvious" reflux issues, but, I sure can tell when i don't take it! I don't clear my throat as much, don't cough as much, and don't feel as "off" as much.

(also, I was dx a couple years ago with silent reflux since I *didn't* have classic reflux symptoms, and I didn't take care of it - and I know have excessive scarring in my esophagus.)

I also had my EGD and a ultra sound on my Gall Bladder this week (Tuesday). My blood tests came back negative for Celiac. And the GI doc found GERD and a hiatel hernia. While I haven't really had a problem with heart burn, it does explain some of the pain and swallowing issues. It does not, however, seem to explain all the "going to the bathroom" issues. I have not heard back about my Gall Bladder. The GI doc did say that they may have to do a colonoscopy also to figure out what is causing the other problems. Fun stuff. In the meantime I am on Protonix twice a day. Yuck. I hate taking medicine.

same thing happened here about a year and a half ago- GI came back and said that i have pretty bad acid reflux. i hadn't ever had 'heartburn' symptoms except once while pregnant after eating a banana of all things. I took the meds for a few months and couldn't tell anything different so i just watched what i ate- the usuall heart burn offenders and chewed tums/rolaids with that meal if i thought of it... yesterday he said my eso looked "better" than the first endo.

:)

it was probably esophagitis he saw, not gastritis (that's the stomach) untreated reflux can lead to some pretty nasty stuff, including esophageal cancer.

one of my twins did not know she had reflux until she had a scope---no obvious symptoms. she tried to go off the meds after awhile and then she had symptoms.

The Benfotiamine and thiamax need magnesium to make life sustaining enzymes.  Yes, go ahead and take the Benfotiamine and Thiamax now and include the magnesium as soon as possible.   Yes, take the magnesium at breakfast, too.   I take my Benfotiamine and TTFD Thiamax and B Complex  at the beginning of breakfast.  I take the magnesium after I finish eating breakfast.  Yes, I take NeuroMag.

@knitty kitty thank you for replying so quickly! I have not done well at all taking vitamins or supplements, I have such a hard time swallowing even small pills, so I have resorted to crushing them and taking them with Gatorade.  Pretty much I eat baked chicken tenders, Fairlife chocolate protein shakes, gluten free crackers. Thank you so much for the advice, I will try it all for sure, because everything I have tried OTC has done nothing

Hi, thank you for the quick reply! I was diagnosed about 5 years ago I think,  I try to be extremely careful with what I eat so I don't get cross contamination. I used to get little sores in my mouth when I was little, usually from sucking on hard candy, but L-lisene would clear it right up. I got that Nasal Navage thing and used it twice and that's when I thought I had a sinus infection. So I got a z pack. Then I noticed my tongue was coated and it was white except right down the middle which was more brown and crusty, like the corners of my mouth. I also have dry mouth and I went way too long before I started treating it. So then I had some kind of huge pill and Nystatin mouthwash. My mother in law's new husband ( they live upstairs) started complaining of exactly the same symptoms as me. He went to urgent care, they said it wasn't thrush, it was shingles. We both went to our dentist's for cleanings, I don't have insurance so I really couldn't tell they cleaned my teeth at all. But she said my mouth looked good, all cleared up. I had a day and a half of no pain and then it came right back. So I got more pills and miracle mouthwash. There are times it feels like dry socket and times it feels like it's bleeding but it's not. I don't see any gum or facial swelling, I did see a couple of tiny ulcers on my bottom lip, roof of my mouth is still sore, and my tongue and cheeks are still a little coated. I am just at a loss. My mother in law's husband, they  took swabs and called back a week later and said it was a new herpes variant virus that is going around but not contagious. He was cured after a week! And I'm going on 3 months 😭

The thiamax and benfo I ordered should come tomorrow. I will start Friday ny b complex the benfo and thiamax for breakfast. I haven't ordered magnesium yet. I wanted to start with this first then add magnesium. Should it be fine to take b complex the thia/benfo and eventually magnesium at breakfast together? Thanks
