NoGluGirl, I had a real bad problem with systemic candida (yeast) for a while after my dx... I had to do a yeast detox, I used a product called Candida Cleanse, it had a pill and a liquid supplement, it was NASTY, but it worked!

again, I'm sorry your parents are being so difficult, I sincerely hope you can get it together enough to live on your own or with a room mate that is more supportive of your health needs. Maybe you can qualify for temporary disability assistance?

Dear Sweetfudge,

I currently am too sick to work, and have no income. I have been trying to start a business for more than two years, but realize it could take quite some time before it is profitable. I was spending money I did not have sending catalogs out to prospective customers. The problem was, no one ever bought anything. :( Of course, I only could afford to send out a few. I cannot get a loan or any other funding. As a retail operation, no one will give you a grant. I want to move out so badly. I am tired of being here against my will. I am tired of missing food. However, a new thought came to light the other week. Making my own Web site and putting my items in a catalog I can send in a document by e-mail would be an inexpensive way to distribute. Plus, placing orders is much easier over the Web, too. So, by this time next week, I hope to have The Blue Ladybug online boutique up and running. 4th quarter sales are something I do not want to miss out on again! Thank you so much for being my sounding board.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

P.S. Where can you find the Thai Kitchen entrees?

NoGluGirl,

You can find the Thai Kitchen foods usually at most grocery stores. You can also order them online from their website. amazon .com has *some* of their products too. I think the online business is a great idea! I hope that you get things going soon! Let us know too, we can help spread the word :)

lol I am very obsessive about clean towels too! It drives my husband mad!

Hope you have a good day!

Hi, I am sorry you are going through this. I am going to make a business suggestion, have you ever thought or done Ebay type auctions or stores? I was able to keep myself off welfare when I was disabled by dealing there. If you have a good eye for used stuff you can get some amazing sales. One of my best was a tattered and stained old cloth doll that I bought for five bucks and sold for over $125. Even good used clothes can make a few dollars. It might not be something you want to do but it does not take a lot of money to get started, just a few local thrift stores.

For the Thai Kitchen products look for them in the oriental section of your grocery store. Just read the labels cause not everything is safe but they will say gluten free on the label. The noodles are great, I find they do not break apart like the rice noodles and they reheat well.

I hope things improve for you soon.

Dear Ravenwoodglass,

I tried E-Bay a few years ago, and had no luck at all. I ended up paying fees for products I could not sell. :( It has gotten so there are so many people on E-Bay that you cannot sell so easily anymore.

I ended up losing money on that. Right now, I am setting up a Web site and a catalog I can e-mail people. It was much too expensive paying postage, and that left me out of more money I already did not have. Thrift stores here are not doing well either. No one wants nice things anymore it seems.

As for the Thai Kitchen, I will look for them. I need all the help I can get. I do not have a lot of energy or time to cook. Rice noodles must be cooked properly. All you have to do is get the water boiling, then drop them in the pot for only 3 or 4 minutes. Do not cook them longer than that. If you do, they will turn to a porridge. Thank you for your recommendations.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Dear Sweetfudge,

Thanks for the info. We live near a Schnuck's, Super Wal-Mart, and another grocery. One of them should carry some of these entrees. I am hungry thinking about it! I know Amazon has a variety of things for gluten intolerant people. I am going to check some stuff out. I will let you know as soon as my Web site is up and running. I am anxious to get things going. I have a cousin and his wife who will send e-mails to everyone on their buddylists, so that should help, too. I appreciate your help. The local t.v. station charges $500 for a 30 second ad, and one of the magazines charges $90 for the smallest! Maybe one day, a physical boutique would be in the works, and I could sell my clothes I design (after I learn how to sew). As far as the clean towel issue is concerned, I may be obsessive too, but it is better than being dirty! Guys can be very nasty. Their idea of clean is if it does not smell too bad to wear again! :P

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

Dear nini,

Candida is terrible. Ever since I have been on these antibiotics, I feel like I am pumped up with gas.

My stomach is so bloated! I do not feel like exercising, though I need to. I worry I will gain the three pounds I lost recently back. I will keep the Candida Cleanse in mind. Whether or not my doctor will approve is another thing. She does not like the herbal formulas. Disability is impossible to get here in Indiana. People who do not deserve it often receive it. Those of us who need it, however, are just screwed.

I know people who were told by their doctors they cannot work, but could not get assistance. Take my best friend's mother, for instance. She has diabetes, IBS, cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia, degenerative bone disease, as well as osteoarthritis, and is unable to get disability. My mother's best friend has fibromyalgia, polymyalgia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, gallbladder disease, ulcers, scar tissue in her esophagus, knee replacements, torn rotary cuffs, and still has no choice but to work due to being rejected for aid. Then, our former church's pastor cheated on his wife, got kicked out of the ministry, and got disability! Can you believe that? Not being able to keep your pants zipped is not a disability! Our state government is so crooked, the Mafia refused to come here! If cold blooded killers do not trust you, it is pretty bad. If I had to choose, I would trust the Mafia first, actually.

Dear babygirl1234,

I am so sorry to hear of your mother's death. I send my condolences. We are here for you.

It is good one relative understands. Mine think it is rediculous. They do not have live in constant fear all of the time for being sick from food, either. As you said, caution is essential.

well, I don't listen to Dr.s anymore. they didn't help me. Candida Cleanse helped me. There is a tea by Traditional Medicinals for Candida you could drink and you are JUST drinking tea...

I got the rice chinese bowls from Costco. Had to try a gluten-free product. It was good but I try to stay totally grain free. Every now and then I try rice but not ready for it yet.

Hope things improve for you on the home front! :)

Dear nini,

I can relate to that. Doctors are always wrong. I almost had my gallbladder rupture inside of me before due to them saying the tests showed nothing. I found out through research those tests are only about 33 percent accurate. My doctor at the time was like "Well, that's true..." It was a good thing I saw the excellent surgeon. At my ten day check-up post op I found out my gallbladder was very inflamed and irritated, and nearly ruptured. Always listen to your intuition. Ignore what everyone around you says. Listen to your body. I wonder...how necessary is it to give up coffee? Is it absolutely necessary to give it up? Drinking green tea is just not the same, though I like it. I know according to many books I have read on Candida in my research, coffee is not allowed due to the natural molds in it.

Sincerely,

NoGluGirl

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!

Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
