Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.

I'm new and finding so much help on the board.

I was wondering if anyone was close to me and we could chat about local stores and products

Mybe work on getting well.

I have 2 adult children and 4 step children the youngest being 15 years old, she lives with me. I love horses, arobics, shoping. I work full time and care for my retired husband who has MS. I'm not sure how to work the picture part of the board yet but if you click on the blue dot, you can see me.

Bye for now

Cathy :)

Hi Cathy!

I'm in Antelope (on the other side of Baseline) and do 98% of my shopping and errand running in Roseville.

My two kids (4yo and 2yo) and I are gluten-free.

It's great to see someone else in the area.

I shop a lot at Sunrise Natural Foods and I make a trip out to Whole Foods about once a month to pick up gluten-free pizza crusts and chicken nuggets.

I also recently discovered Country Naturals - 3231 Stanford Ranch Road, Rocklin . They only have a few things, but it's a small mom and pop shop who is friendly and open to suggestions. They also have a deli counter where they say they make sandwiches for some people with celiac as well with gluten-free bread, but I haven't cross-examined them yet as to how aware they are of cross-contamination.

It's funny because I was just thinking there's got to be plenty of other people with celiac in Roseville or Sunrise Natural wouldn't have such a good selection of products. :D

Hi Nancy,

It so nice to here from you.

I'm so excited to find out that we can get chicken nuggets. I don't know where Whole Foods is? I found some brownie mix at Belair and they are in the oven right now. I hope they come out OK. I realy have a hard time eating any of the bread at the store. I want to try and make some bannana bread this next week. I bought the stuff to make a pumpkin pie but I haven't had the energy to do it yet. What do you put on your pizza crust? I love pizza! I have been drinking a gluten free chocolate shake with a bannana in it and some ice with lactaid milk for the morning and cookies for snacks, I got them at Belair. Belair also has gluten free lasagna and crackers that are not to bad. I do a lot of shoping at Trader Joe's but I have found that some of their lists for gluten free are not accurate. Have you found anywhere to eat out? Where do you go? I tried In and Out burger without the bread and got sick.

Thanks for your help, it's nice to know someone is close to me. I hope you and your family have a nice holiday season.

Cathy :D

Hello local folks! I'm in El Dorado, near Placerville. I don't know if I have celiac, but it would explain why I can't gain weight, but am instead gradually losing. I'm 6', female, and weigh under 125.

I have MS, migraines, and Wilson's Disease! Catandcarnary, I have a horse and four cats!

I would love to talk to you about these things, but I don't know how to contact you directly. I'll give out my work e-mail address: foothillfire@comcast.net.

Check out low dose naltrexone for your husband's MS.

Happy New Year!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
