Just Got Blood Test Back, Need Help Determining What It Means

Hello, first off thank you to anyone who reads this. A little background, Celiac disease runs in my family. My father and uncle both have it. So I decided to get tested for a variety of reasons. I have expienced some symptoms. But since symptoms vary, I wanted to get start here. My doctor told me that my Blood Results were negative. But when I asked to get tested, he was not familiar with the disease. He thought it was a waste of time since I am a 26 year old with good health. I have many allergies but other than that nothing else. So my results were as follows:

IGE Serum --- 417 kU/L (0-114)

IGA Serum --- 196 mg/dl (81-463)

Gliadin ab (IGA) --- 3 U/mL (<11)

Reference Range

<11 U/mL Negative

5-8 U/mL Equivocal

>17 U/mL Positive

Tissue Transglutaminase AB IGA --- <3 U/mL (<5)

Reference Range

<5 U/mL Negative

5-8 U/mL Equivocal

>8 U/mL Positive

My doctor mentioned that my IGA was high with 417, but that could be because of my allergies. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Danosu9

The only thing I know is that my son's tTG was positive. Sorry, I can't help w/ the others, but I THINK any elevation in any of them indicates a gluten problem. Good luck.

it looks like you don't have celiac disease----but since your father has it, i would suggest you continue to be tested periodically for the rest of your life.

The blood tests are highly unreliable. Just because you didn't get a positive result still doesn't mean that you don't have celiac disease. Why don't you try the diet to see if it makes a difference? If you feel it does, you can always still get tested by Open Original Shared Link, as their tests (which are far more sensitive and reliable than blood tests) are still accurate up to a year of being gluten-free.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
