More Interesting Data....

After 4 days going gluten-free, my identical twin brother now tells me his gastrointestinal symptoms have

magically disappeared. Thursday he was telling me he thought it was a load of crap(no pun intended) but I convinced him to try it a few days anyway.

Although he's caught a cold, so he can't gauge the effect it's had on his mood....he tells me "I didn't even realize how bad my stomach was bothering me...."

Hmmm...what do you think of that...

-Identical twins

-Short stature

-Identical tooth enamel defects and crowning at age 40

-Identical gastrointestinal symptoms

-Similar extraintestinal symptoms, including depression and anxiety

Symptoms resolve when gluten-free...imagine that...

Hm-m-m, what do I think? I think you and your brither are definately on the right track! Wow, look how far you've come, Jerry, from when you first started posting here. :D

Not only you have figured this out for yourself, but now your brother, too. How wonderful.

AndreaB Contributor

Sounds like you both have your answer. :)

Congratulations on that discovery, Jerry! Way to go. Hope your brother sticks with the gluten-free diet!

I remember when you were trying to dodge all this just a few short weeks ago. Now you're out to cure the rest of the world same as us! :D

Do you think your bro will stick with it?

Bro will stick with it if I can get more supporting data. Right now, I'm starting to think we have a family tree of undiagnosed Celiac's.

I strongly believe my dad had it. He had the perfect Celiac body shape...huge pot belly, but skinny everywhere else...no butt. I know he had stool problems, because I lived with him for 19 years.

Dad was 5-6 in his prime.

My dad had several children by his first marriage. One of them was diagnosed Schizophrenic years ago..I'm guessing him as good candidate, it's probably to late for him.

I'm certain that my brother and I are at least Gluten Sensitive, likely outright Celiac. My brothers son has ADD/Asperger's, so he is a likely candidate. I think one of my daughters has it, you can watch her get irritable and lethargic right after a gluten feast.

I think this will be a life changing discovery for both myself and my brother....

I hope your brother sticks with it. Not sure why he'd want to go back to feeling crappy...

:/

Yay! It's great that he is willing to try it! You are sounding awfully "evangelistic" about this now... Isn't it interesting that all of the sudden you can really see what's been there all the time. You're probably right about all the members of your family. Hope they'll all be as open-minded as your brother.

What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks

I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.

I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

I have a One Pot and decided to start using it one day. I was hesitant at first making my own yogurt, but was surprised at how easy it was. I like mine better too.

Because I spend so much time reading every word on all food packaging, I personally would greatly appreciate it if there was one common gluten-free symbol written in large-enough text, and always located in the same place. That alone will make shopping easier and faster. I dread having to buy packaged food. Thank you very much for asking,
