My doctor says I have leaky gut, celiac disease and Candida and has put me on Nystatin, digestive enzymes and probiotics. I am down to 94lbs and can't eat corn, rice, soy, beans, dairy and wheat. I continue to loose weight. Any food suggestion are greatly appreciated.

Is he SURE you have Candida and if so is he SURE he should put you on something like that so soon? Make sure your liver enzymes are checked monthly while you're on this med. I'm sure others will have other advice...hang in there.

Nystatin is benign. Open Original Shared Link

There are other prescriptions for candida that are harder on your system, but Nystatin is safe.

I would recommend also avoiding sugar and simple carbohydrates. Focus on protein and veggies. Brown rice is good. Use oils, especially coconut oil which is a natural antifungal, to add calories. As you heal, you will absorb more and gain weight.

Be strict with the no sugar. No alcohol, too.

I initially thought my problem was due to candida infestation. When I first got stomach problems I reasearched everything from stomach ulsers to diverticular disease. The funny thing is that my doctor and a couple more do not look at candida as a medical "problem". The only people who i have spoken to who helped me with following a candida free diet were heath store .

To me the symtoms of candida and Celiac disease look very similar. I am following a diet for both of these. I am also on Proboitics and it makes me feel great when I take it for a week or so.

HI I'M NEW TO THIS CHAT STUFF. I HAVE SO MANY FOOD,CHEMICAL,ENVIRONMENTAL ALLERGIES, LOTS OF EMOTIONAL STUFF GOING ON TOO. I AM SEEING A DOC ON TUES.

I HAVE FOUND THAT BUCKWHEAT PANCAKES ARE GOOD . MILLET AND QUINOA PREPARED LIKE COOKED CEREAL

WITH ALITTLE BERRIES IS ALSO YUMMI. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO ADD ALITTLE COCONUT OIL. I AM ABLE TO EAT GOAT YOGURT ITS WONDERFUL AND ALITTLE REAL BUTTER. FRESH MADE VEGETBLE JUICES HELP GIVE THE BODY LIVE ENZYMES, THAT ARE SO DESPERATELY NEEDED IN LARGE AMOUNTS TO SPEED RECOVERY. I SOMETIMES PUT THE JUICE FROM THE JUICER IN THE BLENDER AND ADD A FRESH KALE LEAF AND SPINACH FOR FIBER AND SET IT TO

LIQUIFY. THIS JUICE MAY NOT SOUND VERY APPETIZING BUT IT IS MY MEDICINE. IT HELPS ME START TO FEEL BETTER WITHIN A FEW DAYS TO A WEEK.

I GOT SO HEALTHY DOING THIS AND MORE 10 YEARS AGO, AFTER BECOMING SO ILL I WAS UNABLE TO WALK.

BUT I FELL BACK IN TO THE OLD WAYS OF DRINKING COFFEE AND WINE OCCATIONALLY, EATING CHOCOLATE AND

BREAD AND TORTILLAS, COW DAIRY, TO MUCH RESTAURANT DINING AND NOT ENOUGH HOME COOKED FOOD.

THE FOODS THAT MANY PEOPLE CAN LIVE OFF OF POISON US.

I JUST WANT TO GET OVER THE LACK AND GET HEALTHY AGAIN.

Leaky gut does not equal diahrea. It is a condition where the lining of the diegestive tract leaks food particles and toxins directly into the blood stream. The body then reacts with an alergic reaction and can be as severe as anaphalexis.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Churro! Several things need to be said here: 1. Your physician neglected to order a "total IGA" test to check for IGA deficiency. If a person is IGA deficient, the results of other IGA antibody tests specific to celiac disease will not be valid. A total IGA test should always be ordered when checking for celiac disease with blood IGA antibody test. You should ask your physician to order a total IGA test. 2. Iron deficiency anemia can also give distorted IGA celiac disease blood antibody tests. 3. If you were already on a gluten-free diet or had been restricting gluten consumption for weeks/months prior to the antibody testing blood draw, then the test results would not be valid. Accurate celiac disease blood antibody testing requires you to have been consuming significant amounts of gluten for a significant time period leading up to the blood draw. It takes time for the antibody levels in the blood to build up to detectable levels. 4. Your low iron levels and other symptoms could be due to celiac disease but could also be caused by lots of other medical issues.

Last month I got blood tests done. My iron level was at 205 ug/dL and 141 ug/dL iron binding capacity unsaturated, 346 ug/dl total iron binding capacity, 59 transferrin % saturation. My ferritin level was at 13 so I got tested for celiac disease last week. My tTG-IgA is <.05, DGP IgA is 4.9 and ferritin level is 9. My doctor didn't order other celiac disease tests. In 2021 I was dealing with severe constipation and hemorrhoids. I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I still deal with hemorrhoids but only about once a week. Also, I've been dealing with very pale skin for at least 5 years. Do you think I have celiac disease?

Hi Cristiana! It's so nice to meet you! Thank you for the kind reply I am glad I live in a time where you can connect with others through the Internet. That is a mercy I am grateful for.

In the study linked above, the little girl switched to a gluten free diet and gained enough weight that that fat pad was replenished and surgery was not needed.   Here's the full article link... Hello, @Jordan Carlson, So glad you're feeling better.   Tecta is a proton pump inhibitor.  PPI's also interfere with the production of the intrinsic factor needed to absorb Vitamin B12.  Increasing the amount of B12 you supplement has helped overcome the lack of intrinsic factor needed to absorb B12. Proton pump inhibitors also reduce the production of digestive juices (stomach acids).  This results in foods not being digested thoroughly.  If foods are not digested sufficiently, the vitamins and other nutrients aren't released from the food, and the body cannot absorb them.  This sets up a vicious cycle. Acid reflux and Gerd are actually symptoms of producing too little stomach acid.  Insufficient stomach acid production is seen with Thiamine and Niacin deficiencies.  PPI's like Tecta also block the transporters that pull Thiamine into cells, preventing absorption of thiamine.  Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are difficulty swallowing, gagging, problems with food texture, dysphagia. Other symptoms of Thiamine deficiency are symptoms of ADHD and anxiety.  Vyvanse also blocks thiamine transporters contributing further to Thiamine deficiency.  Pristiq has been shown to work better if thiamine is supplemented at the same time because thiamine is needed to make serotonin.  Doctors don't recognize anxiety and depression and adult onset ADHD as early symptoms of Thiamine deficiency. Stomach acid is needed to digest Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in fruits and vegetables.  Ascorbic acid left undigested can cause intestinal upsets, anxiety, and heart palpitations.   Yes, a child can be born with nutritional deficiencies if the parents were deficient.  Parents who are thiamine deficient have offspring with fewer thiamine transporters on cell surfaces, making thiamine deficiency easier to develop in the children.  A person can struggle along for years with subclinical vitamin deficiencies.  Been here, done this.  Please consider supplementing with Thiamine in the form TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which helps immensely with dysphagia and neurological symptoms like anxiety, depression, and ADHD symptoms.  Benfotiamine helps with improving intestinal health.  A B Complex and NeuroMag (a magnesium supplement), and Vitamin D are needed also.
