Corporate mentality is invading vet medicine as well - big specialist centers popping up with all the lastest gadgets and fees to go with it $$$$$$$$

Some bigger vet clinics have lost the practical approach that we still take in our rural practice. A recent case highlights what I mean: A cat stops eating and is acting funny.... goes to an Emerg clinic: Bloodwork, ultrasound, xrays, Iv fluids overnight $1900.00 later...no diagnosis. Owner takes cat to regular vet who looks at the cat from head to tail - finds the problem with his own 2 eyes - an abscess at the base of the tail, anesthesia surgery to drain the abscess/antibiotics $150.00.

Corporate approach - lots of money in profit

Practical - little profit but cat feels better.

Ok - went on a rant......back to the original intent .....lots of interesting occupations in this group!

Great thread!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an English teacher- everything from 7th grade up to Freshman Composition in college. I am also working on my PhD in English Ed.....almost there. Just have to do the dissertation (ahhh!!!!!!!!!!!!). I love teaching- don't care what age!

My hubby is a CTO/software engineer. I get lots of geek-speak around here and I've learned so much from him I can almost give it back!

SAHM- you have the HARDEST job in the world, bar none!

I'm just finishing college, and when I do I'm joining the police.

My wife is a semi-proffesional webdesigner. She'll be a pro when she's finished her university course. Anyone wants a website doing, she works cheap.....

My website needs doing and I don't seem to have the time.

What people call my "real job" is my working for Calgary Transit. I call it my mundane thing I have to do for money.

I really run my own businesses, write stories, books, and poetry which yes, I have had some published and no, I am not a wealthy writer. I also paint, draw, sew, make my own soaps, lotions, makeup etc and do leather work.

What I would like to do is get the book I am working on published because it is the most important thing to me, go back to visit Cuba, travel the world and afford to go art college to get my degree. I want my BFA so I can say I have a worthless degree to most but worth everything to me.

I have one son that I raised all by myself and two grandchildren and they are all bright, crazy, and creative like me.

I think that your posts are just awsome, and I think it give all of us a added perspective to the people behind the words and not just an impersonal computer screen. We are real, tangible people who share a common interest.

Thank you all for taking the time to post. It's all very cool. I think many have enjoyed this.

I just found this thread and am sooo impressed by it. I had no idea I was surrounded by such smart people! I am also a SAHM. Only to one right now, Colin who just turned 2. I have a degree in criminal justice (which I never pursued) and worked as a Human Resource Manager for a major supermarket chain in NJ. I then left there to work at a better supermarket chain (Wegmans) for about 4 months until I got pregnant and had to stay off my feet for the duration of my pregnancy.

I am not sure what I want to do next... its still up in the air.

My DH is a frozen food/dairy manager for the supermarket chain I was a Human Resources Manager for... anyone need to know anything about the food in the supermarket, we are the ones to ask! Between the two of us, over 30 years experience!!!

I was a SAHM for several years, of course, I worked at home then. SAHM is one of the hardest jobs to do and the most rewarding. At the time, I also sewed for others part time and I babysat full time. I was very sick back then and still did so many volunteer things, still amazes me. I was PTO president, girl and cub scout leader, even the Cubmaster, 4-H leader, secretary on a fairboard, I even found the time one year to put the entire fairbook together and I was sick. Now, working 40 hours a week does me in.

I am an optometric assistant/accts payable for an optomitrist. We have 2 optical centers and I handle all the accts payable for both offices and most of the calls for vendors and such. They also think I am the resident computer expert. :P

We are a very smart group of people, which reinforces my beliefs. People with medical problems do presevere--we are all a very tough bunch. Pat yourselves on the back!!!!! :D

I think I'm in love.

The Xmen evolution cartoon was suckage in a can. The original series? Was what got me into the comics in the first place. I never saw the suck in the 90's stuff though until recently when I started picking up the back issues. Damn but things did change...

In the 90's the writing was really dumbed down and poorly done. The artwork changed and was also poorly done. Prior to the 90's comic book writers and artists had a real passion for their craft but that has sadly disappeared.

      Get tested for vitamin deficiencies. Though neuropathy can be a symptom of celiac, it can also be caused by deficiencies due to poor digestion caused by celiac and could be easier to treat.

      Thank you so much for your response Yes it seems as though things get very painful as time goes on. I'm not eating gluten as far as I know. However, I'm not sure of cross contamination. My system seems to weaken to hidden spices and other possibilities. ??? if cross contamination is possible...I am in a super sensitive mode of celiac disease...

      EXACTLY! I was asked yesterday on my LAST video call with Standford and I stated exactly yes absolutely this is why I need the name! One, get proper care, two, not get worse.Im falling apart, stressed out, in pain and just opened email from Stanford stating I was rude ect.I want that video reviewed by higher ups and see if that women still has a job or not...

It took me 20+ years of regularly going to doctors desperate for answers only to be told there was nothing wrong with me … when I was 20 pounds underweight, suffering from severe nutritional deficiencies, and in a great deal of pain. I had to figure it out for myself. If you're in the U.S., not having an official diagnosis does mean you can't claim a tax deduction for the extra expense of gluten-free foods. But it can also be a good thing. Pre-existing conditions might be a reason why a health insurance company might reject your application or charge you more money. No official diagnosis means you don't have a pre-existing condition. I really hope you don't live in the U.S. and don't have these challenges. Do you need an official diagnosis for a specific reason? Else, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're diligent in remaining gluten free, your body should be healing as much as possible so there isn't much else you could do anyway. And there are plenty of us out here who never got that official diagnosis because we couldn't eat enough gluten to get tested. Now that the IL-2 test is available, I suppose I could take it, but I don't feel the need. Someone else not believing me really isn't my problem as long as I can stay in control of my own food.

You pretty much need to cook with whole ingredients yourself to avoid it completely. Most gluten-free products should be safe, but while you're in the hypersensitive phase right after going gluten free, you may notice that when something like a microwave meal seems to not be gluten-free … then you find out that it is produced in a shared facility where it can become contaminated. My reactions were much-more severe after going gluten free. The analogy that I use is that you had a whole army of soldiers waiting for some gluten to attack, and now that you took away their target, when the stragglers from the gluten army accidentally wander onto the battlefield, you still have your entire army going out and attacking them. Expect it to take two years before all of the training facilities that were producing your soldiers have fallen into disrepair and are no longer producing soldiers. But that is two years after you stop accidentally glutening yourself. Every time you do eat gluten, another training facility can be built and more soldiers will be waiting to attack. Good luck figuring things out.
