Was I Glutened?

Hi all! I have been gluten free for 3 weeks now. I have noticed a difference for sure. My question is this: I dined out yesterday at a local restaurant. Told the waiter i had a wheat allergy so he was really helpful and got grilled chicken for my salad instead of fried and even made sure to not have fried onions put on top of salad ( something i didn't even catch). Any way i woke up this morning with a splitting headache, felt grouchy and emotionaltoo. I'm fianlly feeling better this evening. I don't tend to get really volatile stomach stuff, so i'm wondering if my symptoms are "glutened" symptoms or not? thanks

Could be. Was the chicken a premade grilled chicken, or cooked on a contaminated grill? What did you use for salad dressing?

If it is gluten you need to avoid and not just wheat, then you should have said that. I am always leery of chicken breast unless I know it is being cooked from scratch. Much of the frozen stuff does contain gluten.

It could be that you got cross contaminated. It's important in restaurants that the cooking staff use clean utensils, clean cloths to wipe the plate edge, clean pots, and grill (they can clean a section for your food, or line with foil) for your food. They need to use fresh knives and not use the same cutting board as they do for everything else.

Sometimes chicken (or any meat, but frequently with chicken) can be pre-marinated--always ask :)

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
