Gluten Free And Still Got Symptoms !

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum ( MODS please feel free to move it)

This is a topic I started on the Irish Coeliac Society's Message Board some time ago.

This may have been discussed and checked into years ago, I'm not sure as I'm only

posting on this Site for the last few months!

If this Topic has been covered before apologies.

I have read so many posts by people that have stuck rigidly to the diet and still have

issues so this item maybe something to consider ??.

.

People, who are sticking to a gluten-free diet and still suffering some or all of the symptoms, should maybe take a look at food additives in processed and canned products.

.

We all know that modified starch could mean anything if it is not specified.

Some times products use E numbers instead. (E1400 - E1450 should be avoided

I was interested to read your comments about food additives. I was researching non-allergic, non-bacterial chronic rhinitis (which I have along with celiac) and found an article by Prof. Maria Luisa Pacor, MD (Italy) with an abstract about chronic rhinitis stating that food additives (as those you mentioned)"can be considered triggers or aggravating factors, rather than aetiological factors". I also found information about a chemical rhinitis that is aggravated by "biogenic amines, benzoic acids (food additives), and tyramine (found in aged cheeses, etc.) Eliminating these seems to help me but I still have symptoms.

Thanks for posting this, it may be useful for some of us that are still having issues. It should be noted that the E Numbers are used in Europe but not in the US. In the US most of these items would need to be listed by name on the label.

Thanks for your comments. Re E numbers: I found a list at www.naturallyhealthylifestyles.com. It is helpful because it lists the E Number, the name, foods it is used in, and side effects in an easy to read chart. Or, one could just Google it and see what they come up with. I found several sites.
