I absolutely LOVE that hospital. Well, you know what I mean. Their maternity ward is SO nice. Its probably the cleanest hospital I've ever been in too. I've had some pretty bad experiences with hospitals in the past and I have nothing but good things to say about Ephrata. Even their emergency room is relatively efficient. I had the option of delivering there or Women's and Babies in Lancaster. I chose to go to Ephrata again.

Hey, I did not know, you where from Ephrata. Usually I am in Lancaster (or near Lancaster) at least once a week. How cool. We could meet with our little rugrats, once they're out.

I'm actually a little closer to Lancaster than Ephrata. I live just outside of Lititz. Where's New Bloomfield?

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

New Bloomfield is just north of Harrisburg in Perry County. It's about 1 hour from Lancaster. The reason I go there is because of Capoeira training. Usually I train Wednesday in Mountville. And if I can't come on Wednesday, I take the substitute class on Saturday, which is in Shrewsbury. And every first Friday of the month, they have an "Open Roda" in Bins Park in Lancaster, which is outside and a lot of fun. The instructor's fiance just had her little girl on July 10th and all the new moms sit there and chitchat, while the others train. Well, with me as an exception probably. I will probably train, while little rugrat watches... lol.

Guhlia Rising Star

Wow, so you're pretty close to both Amanda and I. That's cool!!! Where is Bins Park in Lancaster?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

We should all meet up one day and have a gluten free picnic or lunch. It would be so much fun.

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Cool! Yes, we should. Uhm, Bins Park is that industrial park between Prince Street and Queen Street. I always Park at the parking garage at Orange Street and just go down to where that little piece of land is with that big water fountain. That's where they usually have the 'Open Roda' (free training) of Capoeira every first Friday of the month. If all of us bring their babies (plus the instructors fiance who is not celiac), we will have four moms and babies there  . The next meeting is September 7th at 7pm. Just wanted to let you know. I will be definitely there. If you want to come, too, I will go to meetup.com and add you as one of my guests.

Maybe next time this year I will be able to join you guys as a mom. We can't wait to start all family.

Guhlia Rising Star

When's the next one after the September one? We'll both have newborns around that time and it would be much eaiser to wait until they're at least a few weeks old.

Amanda, do you work during the day every day?

We could always just meet up sometime in the evening with our "husbands" and children. :) It would be cool to have a get together. My whole family is gluten free, even when we eat out, so it would be fun for all of us. I think I live the farthest and we wouldn't mind taking a little drive. I know Amanda and I have been dying to try out Cheeseburger in Paradise in York. :)

Amanda, next time this year you will be pregnant and overjoyed and I will be able to live vicariously through you this time. Hubby said this is absolutely the last one. :(

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

I work everyday, John and I both work at HMC, so we drive together which does save some money in gas, we work until 4:30 everyday.

I really want to go to Cheeseburger in paradise. Everyone is always talking about that place.

We should all do a dinner thing. It would be nice and it would be a comfortable enviroment since we are all gluten free.

We should plan something once your babies both get a little older and you both are feeling up to going out. The first few months you will both be busy and may not be as up to it. We should try something even in December around the holidays, it would be nice.

Crazy Amanda....I was thinking last night about how close Christmas is getting again, seems like just yesterday.

Guhlia Rising Star

I'm definitely up for meeting at CIP. I think about a month after having her I'll be ready to go out. The one in York is only about 40 minutes or so from me, so that's a viable option. My hubby and daughter will both eat gluten free. Will everyone's husbands (or fiances) as well? That would be so cool to have a huge table of gluten free people!!! Isn't there somebody else that lives in the Harrisburg area too?

I can't believe the three of us all live so close together! :) What a small world!

Anything happening today Stef? Contractions? Back ache? Anything? Isn't tomorrow your due date?

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

Actually, yes SunnyDyRain, is also in the Harrisburg area so maybe she join us as well. John will eat gluten free as well. He is really good about that kind of stuff. We will have our own little party!!!! Maybe I will bring some of those gluten free strawberry shortcakes for dessert. Let me tell you those were good!

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Yes, Angie, tomorrow is my due date. I can't believe, it's almost here. How fast the time passed. I didn't have any cramping going on in the morning today, but a couple of minutes ago I had some. Now it's better. Hm... I don't get it  .

Well, the times, that are best for me to meet are either Mondays through Fridays in the morning or at the weekends in the afternoon and/or evening. I think, that I live furthest away from Lancaster, because for me it's a good 60 minutes, one way, if I can drive the speed I want... lol. Or more like 90 minutes, cause most of the time the people can't drive <_< . And I don't actually live in Harrisburg. New Bloomfield is like northwest of Harrisburg, more towards Lewistown or even better, Newville, area. So that's quite a bit. I just said, near Harrisburg, cause it's the capital, so that people know, what I'm talking about. I don't think, you would have had an idea, if I would have said New Bloomfield, without a focal point... .

Well, for me,... uhm, unless I have a c-section, there won't be a maternity break for me :o . The only household bill and responsibility that I have, is the grocery bill and doing the taxes. That means, if baby, daddy and mommy want to eat, I need to work. But luckily I'm self employed. My baby is with me all the time. His little nursery is beside the room where the "mini" gym is in, so if he's hungry, I just grab him, shovel him under my t-shirt and keep on teaching :P .

Unless I have a c-section I will definitely be in Lancaster the first Friday in September, because my testing, the Capoeira "Batizado" is coming up on September 29th (in Lancaster also, I think at the "old country buffett"), which doesn't really give me a break. Since I am planning on teaching Capoeira, which would be an additional money income for me. Especially since Capoeira is taught rarely by somebody in the US. It IS very rare, so I'd have the privilege. So, this is my only chance for about one entire year or even longer to get to graduate to a higher level. Since they have to fly in the testers from Brazil, they won't be here everyday like in a usual martial arts school. So if I want to or feel like it or not, I have to get my butt moving :P . This is my only chance for a loooooong time. And I don't want to wait another year or longer to get those dollars rolling. I need money now. Those meetups are every first friday per month. So in October it will be the first friday again, however I don't know, if they have it somewhere else, because of the bad weather in fall.

So again, during the week Mondays through Fridays in the morning or on the weekends in the afternoon/evening. I have to appologize to you guys, but for me there's no other way unfortunately. So I will have to bite the bullett and not come, if I can't arrange it with my schedule, even though I would love to real bad. But I also need the money  .

My husband most likely won't come, cause we both have pretty independent schedules. He works 2 to 10 everyday and his off days can be from Monday to Friday as well as on the weekends sometimes. It's just too difficult to plan him in with his AND my wicked schedule. And most of the time, when he's off, he has own plans already anyway, that I don't want to criss cross and make him feel bad or overwhelmed by me pushing him into something. We are both very independent people. We always were, even before we married. And as stupid as that sounds, we are both satisfied with our adventurous life and are actually glad, we don't go on each others nerves everyday. Well, we see each other and have very good conversations, the few minutes we are together, but we both feel very well on our own, too. We usually go our way during the day. He is not a celiac (at least he never got tested, but there are symptoms), however he doesn't mind eating glutenfree food. We just ate some glutenfree food together the other night, which was really cool, cause his parents came down to bring me the rest of the baby stuff and his truck. And everything that we prepared was glutenfree on the table and everybody ate the same thing. I felt really delighted at how much they seem to care!

Sorry, that got so long, just tried to explain my situation. Even though, I might cause you all terrible inconvenience, I still hope, that there is a possibility to plan me in... lol.

Once racing is over weekend evenings are good for us too...

blueeyedmanda Community Regular

We are good any time after 4:30.

Gosh my family came to visit today and I was out all day, I was expecting some kind of baby news out of one of you two.... :P

Angie

how are things coming along for you? The due date is getting closer :)

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Yes, Angie, where are you? Listen, dont' you go before me, ok? Just kidding. But, really guys, I haven't heard anything of her in three days. Did she post anywhere else and I missed it.

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Ooops, sorry  . I just realized, you already posted today. Never mind... I decided to finally work on my pregnancy belly cast and maybe go to the movies later on.

Thats sounds neat.

I'm still here guys... Weekends are just really hectic for us with racing both Friday and Saturday evenings. It doesn't leave much time for much else. Plus, my daughter just discovered internet games, so I haven't had much access to my computer the last day or two.

I have 5 days until my due date. I'm really hoping to go before then, but we'll see. I have an exam on Tuesday. Hopefully we're making some progress. I almost don't want to know for fear of the let down if nothing's happening.

Well I hope for you it is sooner than later, I know how excited you are for Annika's arrival. Is Tori excited?

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Hi Angie, you might even go before me  . I'm so jealous, I want mine out, too. And I don't want to be induced either. Aaargh! What anticipation! Well, maybe this moon thingy will get things started for us tonight. :P

Guhlia Rising Star

Moon thingy? Is it a full moon? That would figure... I banged up my car today (not bad, just backed up into someone). This has been the week from hell. I am way too hormonal to handle this. :)

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Oh, Angie! I'm sorry you backed up your car into someone. This moon thingy is not a full moon thing. The earth is between the sun and the moon and the shadow of the earth will fall on the moon and at one point you only see a red circle around the moon. It looks really need. You should be able to see it sometimes in the early, early morning hours I think. Well, I think, I said, I'm jealous a little bit too early. I'm having lower back pain on and off today. Just like in waves. My MIL panicked, she's like 'And where's Mr. Gilbert? That's how it starts, that's how it starts...' What the??? She wants Brock to come home, so that we can go in now. I'm not going in with just a little back pain just yet. The plan was to hold out at home for as long as we can and then go in. And this definitely isn't it. My prediction was tomorrow between my two fighting divisions at the World Championships in Germany, that's when he will come, just to p... me off. The first division starts at 8:45am and my second would be Wednesday around noon sometimes. That is in American time tonight at 2:45am until sometimes around Wednesday morning at 6-ish. He already knows, he messed my sports career for 2007 up. Now he really needs to rub it in :P .

Stef I hope for your sake it is real soon!!! Come on Lukas!

@rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅
    • knitty kitty
So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.
    • rei.b
I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
