Positive Thread In Light Of Alexis Stewart Comments

What started the whole Alexis Stewart thing is that she said she wanted recipes in the NY Times instead of another article about another place offering a gluten free menu. Well, I don't think there are ENOUGH places that offer gluten free menus! I try to keep up with the GOOD places I go out to eat, but I have slacked off! I say we start a positive letter/email campaign to thank those places that DO have gluten free menus!! I will post the addresses/emails for the places I can think of. Please join me in thanking these places that make an effort

One thing.. we have alot of those resturaunts where I live.. but the particular franchise DOES NOT always offer gluten-free food or menus.... namely Outback, Carabas, Bonefish Grill and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

When I went to those locations and requested a gluten-free menu they didn't have one and couldn't guarantee it - but did tell me up front so I just left of course The only exception was Cheeseburger in Paradise (YAY) which told me they would alter anything as I needed it (it's a pretty laid back place anyhow!) and we didn't have a problem there either

We ate at a local Austin Grill (northern VA) and they have a dedicated grill for gluten-free and make their own flourLESS tortilla's and have a gluten-free menu available - unfortunately no nachos because all their cheese is made with some beer blend

Maggiano's (sp?) in northern VA will even cook your own pasta you bring (or for additional cost will go out and GET YOU gluten-free pasta) (Italian Resturaunt) and serve it with everyone elses. Of course that's probably because they are very near one of the largest Whole Foods stores in the country up in northern VA.... but still it's good.

But the Corporate office has made a point to have a gluten free option. That is a big step for chains! That is my point....
