Need Suggestions About Probiotics

I just finished a round of antibiotics for an infection, and now I'm noticing more gas, bloating, etc  . I've never used probiotics before, but I think it's time to try them. Can any of you suggest a gluten-free brand and/or the place you purchase them? What should I expect when I start taking them?

Thanks for your help!

Hi: I started probiotics about 6 months ago and am so impressed with the results! The brand I take is called Pro 8 and it is marked "gluten free". I purchasethem at my health food store--good luck. L.A.

You might consider taking a theraputic dose too. Couldn't hurt. I was eating 50 billion organisms a day and I quit cause I found I have all the symptoms of Celiac and needed to be tested.

Theraputic dose can be anywhere from 15 billion organisms to 30-40- or 50 billion.

Listen to your body! :)

My daughter is taking Super 8, by Flora it has 30 billion CFU - she had a round of antibiotics a few weeks ago.

I am now taking ultimate critical care, by renew life it has 50 billion cfu - we both have celiac ...

My other daughter takes renew life adult fomula, it has 15 billion CFU's - she is taking them to boost her immunity while she is at college. ... very tiny all her life, and fights to maintain a 100 pound weight today, still so tiny..

Everyone of those mentioned are gluten free, and purchased from a health food store. Some of free of milk, soy, corn, etc.... I was taking flora-jen 3, (gluten free too) purchased at a pharmacy, I really liked them, but I had to take several at different times a day to get the current dose I am now at....now I am taking one in the evening, it works better for me than in the morning. After the next month with this dose, I will be switching to a bit lower dose, perhaps a 30 billion cfu. I probably will be on them for a long time. I give them a lot of credit. I wish I would have known about them before now - I might now be as bad as I am today

plus...

My kids were all cesarean births, the bad news for them is that since they don't pass through the birth canal they miss out on the good bacteria they would pick up.... wish I would have known this a long time ago, it would have saved some agony giving them the infant dose way back when. My youngest may not have so many illnesses, or problems had I known.

You will see you may have to play around, experiment, with them until you find the right one for you, or the right dose for you..

I posted this before - perhaps it will help you Open Original Shared Link

Vinco's makes a really good one, I can't remember the name, but it's a 25 billion cultures.

It's really good.

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
