Does Anyone Else Hate The Activia Commercials?

Well then......how can we get a 30-second Celiac commercial made?? Mentioning the most relevant lovely qualities of undiagnosed Celiac AND that there is treatment for it AND that most doctors don't know about it blah blah blah....and Heidi Collins from CNN can be the commercial spokeswoman!

Who can fund this for us? Should we all donate $5 and have it matched by Dr. Green's department at Columbia U? :)

Spot on, DingoGirl! What about YouTube?

ihate them all. I hate them so much that I don't own a television. I highly recommend going tv-free.

Matilda

I am beginning to consider this too....I also hate the vacuum.. :D

Moi, I'm peeved at the washing machine. Especially today <_<

Just to be a devil's advocate for a minute -- Californian cows are "happy" because by law, dairy cows cannot be given BGH -- bovine growth hormone. The minute I moved out of California, my brother-in-law told me to buy only BGH-free organic milk because of the potential carcinogenic effects years down the line from BGH.

And yes, I agree, the whole Activia ad campaign is stupid -- because plain old yogurt would do the same trick.

As for the IBS pill ads -- my friend Cyn nearly died bc of her "IBS" combined with her "idiopathic anemia" -- which was, as I'm sure you've all guessed, celiac disease. Her heart went into an arrhythmia, but fortunately, stopped short of a full-blown heart attack.

Ooops -- double-post. Mea culpa.

I too dislike all food related TV commercials. None of the stuff in commercials is ever edible by me. On the flip side I get a small thrill out of knowing they paid to place that commercial in front of me without knowing I can't and would never eat their products. They waste a few pennies every time I watch one of them. At least they pay in some small way for the privledge of annoying me :D

Different strokes for different folks! I'll take Pollyanna-ish yogurt commercials and stupid talking cow commercials over, shall we delicately say, "disfunctional body part" (one in particular) commercials ANY DAY!

If the commercial has to say any variation of "ask your doctor" then please "ask your doctor" in his or her office and not in my house.

The dairy commercials may be insipid, but at least you don't have to lunge for the remote to change the channel!

Rant over.

Actually those are some of my favorite commercials ;)

I love comparing what the product is supposed to fix to all the hideous side effects they then apparently have to list. I wait for the side effects portion of the commercial.

"Want to cure your gas. Take this. It may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure resulting in death, or seizures and possibly brain aneurysms, but gosh darn it's gonna relieve your gas like nothing you've ever taken."

Then there's that line about "If you experience an ______ lasting longer than four hours, see a doctor." NO, you think?

Gotta jump in on the anti-dairy discussion here. I just brought my 15 month in for her check up. She has never had dairy in any form, and will not ever. The doctor was shocked at how WELL she's been.....She has only been in for well child checks, and has never had a cold, ear infection, etc. Then he starts to grill me about why I don't give her dairy, he's very concerned about her calcium intake, etc. I tried to tell him about Hemp milk (46% rda calcium, etc.) but I don't think he had a clue what I was talking about.

Anyway, I totally see the correlation between her health, and being dairy free....but the correlation is lost of most of the medical community...and one mother's quirky diet isn't going to change their mind anytime soon, lol.

oops, double post!

I personally like the side effect mentioned in "those" commercials of contacting your doctor if you have a sudden loss of vision. Someone wouldn't know that? I'm suddenly blind, but gee now I'm able to, you know, so what should I do? Difficult decision

taweavmo3, here is a link about calcium if you ever find the need for ammunition:

I see one of your children has been diagnosed with an expressive/receptive delay. I went through that with both of mine. My daughter had a particularly severe case; we were even told she might never speak and would end up in a group home. Well, she's in an Ivy League school. I ended up homeschooling her for the last 5+ years of secondary education. My son was a high school and college debater and is now in graduate school.

I just wanted to go off-topic and mention my experience. A "diagnosis" like this is more an explanation of what is going on. It doesn't give you a clear understanding of the future. Just go with your instincts and make sure your child is academically challenged and that any gaps get filled in. The only way my daughter ended up with grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and writing expertise came from my doing it myself. What I wanted wasn't "part of the curriculum" or "research shows" it doesn't help, blah, blah, blah.

And that ends my unsolicited advice

Anyway, my daughter's college admission essay was about her experience and how "experts" can be wrong. One has to see what anybody's conclusions are based upon. Same as with dairy. The industry has done such a good job getting the government, nutritionists, and doctors to think it is health food despite the evidence. Everybody remembers the "4 Basic Food Group" charts ... that the American Dairy Association provided to schools.

Yes I hate those commercials. But again, they can't make money if they cure the illness, only if they treat the symptoms. And they are only treating the symptoms so they can have a steady income stream.

Same goes for that IBS drug. I don't think IBS is an illness, I think it is a symptom of another illness, like a food allergy. I also think some cases of depression are just a symptom of something else, like a gluten allergy or *celiac disease*.

I was just curious whether anyone on the anti-dairy bandwagon here had ever done any research on the science of raw dairy and the nutrition it provides, or the health concerns it poses. Just curious what info everyone else has found on the difference between commercial dairy and raw dairy.

Here's some information on dairy, going off hathor's link, it helped push us into realizing what a joke the dairy industry is. Open Original Shared Link

The essential problem with dairy are the inherent components of the product -- the casein, the lactose, the dairy fat, etc. and the effect they have on the human body. All the nasties that might be created by commercial production just add to the problem.

I am unaware of any published, peer-reviewed study showing that people consuming raw dairy are healthier in any respect than people who consume no dairy at all, holding all other factors equal.

There is nothing good in dairy that can't be found in a healthier way in some other food. Plus, many people can't tolerate the casein and most in the world can't tolerate the lactose.

I’m wondering if anyone has had any experience with the gluten challenge. My teenager completed a gluten challenge over the summer, it ended up being 10 weeks although she stopped being consistent eating gluten after 6. Her previous endoscopy was negative but this past August it was positive after the gluten challenge. If you have done the gluten challenge, how long did it take you to feel back to normal? It took about two months before she got “glutened” again but now she’s having difficult coming back from that and has a lot of fatigue. I’m hoping someone has some advice!

Hello everyone, I was on here a few months ago trying to figure out if I was reacting to something other than gluten, to which a very helpful response was that it could be xanthin or guar gum.    Since then, I have eaten items with both of those ingredients in it and I have not reacted to it, so my mystery reaction to the Digiorno pizza remains.    HOWEVER, I realized something recently- the last time I got glutened and the most recent time I got glutened, I truly never ate anything with gluten in it. But i did breathe it in.    The first time was a feed barrel for my uncle’s chickens- all of the dust came right up, and most of what was in there was wheat/grains. The second time was after opening a pet food bag and accidentally getting a huge whiff of it.    When this happens, I tend to have more neurological symptoms- specifically involuntary muscle spasms/jerks everywhere. It also seems to cause migraines and anxiety as well. Sometimes, with more airborne exposure, I get GI symptoms, but not every time.    My doctor says he’s never heard of it being an airborne problem, but also said he isn’t well versed in celiac specifics. I don’t have the money for a personal dietician, so I’m doing the best I can.    is there anyone else who has experienced this, or gets similar neurological symptoms?

I was suffering from PF just previous to being dx with celiac disease about 25 yr. ago but have not been troubled with it since. Not sure what the connection between the two is of if there is one. But I do know it is a very painful condition that takes your breath away when it strikes.

I have dealt with proctalgia fugax on and off for a year now. It feels almost paralyzing during an episode and they have started lasting longer and longer, sometimes 20+ minutes. I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and wonder if the 2 are related. I did request a prescription for topical nitroglycerin for my PF episodes and that has helped tremendously!

Hey @Butch68, I also have dermatitis herpetiformis but don't suffer from it anymore. I used to drink Guinness too but I drink Cider now when out on social occasions. I assume you are in Ireland or the UK. If it's any good to you ... 9 White Deer based in Cork brew a range of gluten-free products including a gluten-free Stout. I'm not sure if they are certified though. https://www.9whitedeer.ie/ I haven't come across any certified gluten-free stouts this side of the pond.
