I finally got around to trying Chebe. I think it was just the plain 'ol Chebe. We added some cheese and made some dinner rolls. OH MY GOODNESS! SO YUMMMMMY!!!!!! I am dreaming now of making lots of little tiny sammiches! It's the only bread I've found that makes a good gluten-free sammich. Toss on a little honey mustard and some turkey and my daughter was in HEAVEN!!! She ate about 4 little sammich balls. It was wayyyy cute.

I stocked up on some more packages of Chebe, figuring I'll be making them in lots about once a week. I've heard y'all rave about Chebe, so here comes the question.

How else can I use Chebe besdies rolling it into a ball for rolls or twisting it into breadsticks like in the picture on the package? I have high hopes for this stuff, but I noticed the package said not to make the balls too big (I'm assuming because the insides won't cook completely).

So, all you Chebe experts out there, what kinds of variations of Chebe have you made?

I generally buy the all-purpose mix. It is great for pizza crusts, breadsticks, rolls and sub rolls. I have thought about trying for a soft pretzel. I think it might work. If you roll it really thin, it makes a great cracker.

We are addicted to Chebe!! Love it! Here are our favorite ways to eat Chebe:

Pizza Mix:

We doctor it up a bit by adding 2T Pamela's mix and 2T flax meal to the the other ingredients. Roll it out super thin on a really large pizza pan, then pre-bake 10 minutes. Top with everything you like - return to oven until hot and bubbley. Yum.

Tortillas:

do it the same as above with pizza mix, pamela's and flax meal (plus other ingredients called for on package). Then pull off golf ball size dough balls roll out as thin as you can (between pieces of plastic works really well) then cook in a large skillet (ungreased) over medium-low heat until lightly browned on each side. These are revolutionary and life altering. I know it sounds extreme but sandwich wraps, burritos, personal pizzas, quessidilla . . . we eat them like every single day - so, so , good! I usually double the recipe, using one bag of pizza mix and one bag of bread stick mix and doubling everything else, makes about 14 large tortilla (that's like 3 days worth for us :)

Garlic Naan (Indian flat bread):

Using the regular mis in the red bag - follow the recipe on the back, but instead of 1/3 cup of milk use 1/3 cup of plain yogurt. mix until a soft dough. Then break into 5 or 6 pieces. roll the pieces out into flattened ovals (but not as flat as tortilla's - more like a pancake). Then crush garlic on top of each piece. Drizzle a little olive oil on top and rub in with garlic using your fingers to smear around each piece. Then bake at 375 for about 20 minutes. Soooooo good with Indian food or just on their own.

Pigs in a blanket:

Only did this once but it was good - make according to regular recipe, break off small pieces and wrap around mini hot dogs or just cut up regular hot dogs and bake in the oven.

I get about 4 personal size crusts out of a bag of pizza mix and freeze for later use.

I've also rolled it out very thin and made crackers.

I am eager to make as tortillas - thanks for the heads-up barb.

Chebe Pizza mix: Gluten, corn, soy, rice, potato, yeast, nuts, peanut, lactose and casein free, plus great taste. What's not to like? :)

I make large flat round bun-type things and cut them in half into burger buns, I haven't had a burger bun in three years, I almost cried they were so good!

Okay that's it! I've been debating buying Chebe now I'm sold. I don't recall seeing it at Whole Foods or Kroger. Is online the only place you can get it? I'm not opposed to ordering things online was just wondering if I can get it near me. Oh god do I miss sandwichies and the like!

Thanks SO much everyone! I am still lovin' the Chebe. I made some more rolls and am going to get more experimental! I have a tortilla press so I'm really thinking tortillas are next on the list. And some sammich style formations. Oh the possibilities!!!!

This is a MUST for every gluten-free eater!!! And it's not just gluten-free--it's free of most everything anyone could be intolerant to, and it still tastes delicious!!!!!

I made Chebe tortillas last night and the results were FABULOUS. I LOVE CHEBE. The best tortilla I've had since I went gluten-free.

I heard it has chemically modified starch in it. Does it say modified cassava starch on the package? I heard we can't digest the modifed starch so I have steered clear of it. I'm not sure all their stuff has it, so that's why I'm asking.

Modified food starch should only be problem when it comes from a gluten source. We have safely eaten modified corn, potato, tapioca starches.

I haven't had any trouble with Chebe, and I'm pretty sure they all have modified manioc starch.

I just read it's not good for you as for as digestion and absorption in the liver. I don't know that you would experience any symptoms as it has nothing to do with gluten. I, myself, do not eat chemicals as my brother died from cancer so I am very careful what I eat. That's just me.

And, we were paying like $3.99/bag of chebe at WFM but on-line, if you buy it by the case you can get the price down to like $2.50/bag and if you buy at least 4 cases, the shipping is free. I thought 4 cases would be overkill but we are ripping through it.

We eat: pizza, tortillas, hot dog buns, ginder rolls, garlic naan, pigs in a blanket, rolls, bread sticks - it just goes on and on!

But I am still putting a plug in for the tortillas - you gott try them!

Well, be careful if you have kids:

Modified food starches used by the food industry for infants and young children are of concern and there is an urgent need for additional data regarding their bioavailability, effect on nutrient absorption, intestinal changes, and toxic, mutagenic, and carcinogenic effects. Therefore, the inclusion of modified food starches should be used prudently and sparingly.

I've never had any, but I went to the website and checked out the ingredients. The regular Chebe mix contains these ingredients only:

Tapioka flour, Tapioka starch, dried milk, and salt. If you follow their directions, the eggs will be the only leavening agent (although they do say you can add some baking powder if wanted). That's probably why they say to make the rolls small, there's no yeast in the recipe. If you were to use yeast like a normal bread, you could probably make them as big as you wanted.

I did get a chance to check out that website.

It does list modified tapioca starch in the ingredients. I think it's probably called Expandex. And here's what the company said about it:

I know this is an old post but I made some hot dog buns with this today and they were so good I wanted to share. I used mozzarella cheese in it and it gave it a nice mild flavor. I am going over to a friends this weekend for a bbq and I am defenitly going to be making some hamburger buns to take with me.

Can't wait to try other things with chebe now.

      I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver.After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

      M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

      I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
