Major "awwwww" Moment At School

My daughter's school friends are starting to catch on to the gluten free thing, and understanding why she is so protective of her space and food. She is 10. There is a boy in her class who seems to have taken a liking to her. His family is very "green." They even have a wind turbine in their front yard! They are very much into whole and natural foods, and every time this boy has a snack that is labeled gluten free, he shows it off to my daughter. It is quite sweet.

Well, a few weeks ago, he started hinting to her that he wanted to make her cupcakes. She explained that it's more than just finding a gluten-free mix, but scrubbing anything and everything of gluten, etc. Lo and behold, last Wednesday at school, this boy shows up with enough GLUTEN FREE cupcakes for the entire class. His mother brought them in and ensured here they used nothing but clean utensils and baking dishes and she did some research on gluten-free just so this little boy could bring in cupcakes.

My daughter was just absolutely delighted and the whole class loved the gluten-free cupcakes! She said to me, "Mom, I felt SO normal!!!" Not to mention this boy earned major bonus points in our book! I'm sending the boy's mom a thank you card and a gift card for Vitamin Cottage (a local health food grocer) to show my appreciation! It was the sweetest thing ever!!

We've also talked about what happens when she is finally old enough to date and kisses a boy. We explained that every boy she smooches has to wash his mouth and brush his teeth before he can kiss her and it will actually be a good judge of a good boyfriend versus a bad boyfriend because a good boyfriend will ALWAYS brush his teeth, and do it happily.

I was casually joking with her after the cupcake incident that this boy sounded like a real "tooth brusher." And she said, "Of course he is, Mom! His mother is a dentist!!"
