Another Glorious Meal At Melting Pot

Hi All,

I eat out so seldom now that when I have a fabulous meal I just have to come on here and spread the news. Previously I had posted about a great meal I had at the Denver Littleton location. This time I tried the Melting Pot in Louisville CO. They didn't have the bread and baked goods that the other did but they still did an awesome job. Here is what I had.

Their specialty fondue with dates, garlic, shallots and some white cheeses. I had the apple and veggies to dip in the cheese.

Their spinach mushroom salad without dressing (but I dribbled some cheese on it as dressing).

Their chicken and veggie meal with water and a vegetable mulch to cook it in.

Their chocolate raspberry fondue with strawberries, bananas, marshmallows and cherries for dipping.

They had a way to work around their gluten ingredients to make just about anything gluten free. They also said if I told them in advance that I needed gluten free they could have the gluten free bread, brownies, shortcake etc. that I had at my previous meal.

Hmmm, there's a Melting Pot in Chicago. Next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll give them a try! Thanks for the tip!

That's very exciting. I always thought that sounded like a fun place to eat. I have sent a message to our local Melting Pot to see if they can accomodate us here. I'm crossing my fingers.

Hi all, I hope you have as good of an experience as I did. They had a print out of all the sauces, ingredients, items etc that contained gluten, msg or nuts. They also have apparently started crusting their marshmallows with cookie crumbs because someone caught theirs on fire and threw it across the room, hitting someone else in the face. Just ask them to open a fresh bag and give you uncrusted ones.

I also had a great experience this past weekend at a Melting Pot in Virginia. We called ahead, and they told my husband it was no problem. The server assigned to us had dealt with a previous customer with a wheat allergy and was experienced with what to do. She brought me some corn tortilla chips that they usually only serve with the mexican cheese fondue. With those chips, I didn't even miss the bread. The most pleasing part of the experience was even though they were so throrough about double checking everything, they were so matter-of-fact about it. I didn't feel like I was imposing. I'm very new to this, and often feel weird about asking restaurants about all this stuff. I actually took the time to fill out the survey at their website and praised the restaurant and our server.

I checked wit our local Melting Pot and got a very positive response. They said when I call to make reservations, just let them know about needing a gluten-free menu, and they will be sure to have one when we get there! Woohoo!

Thanks for the info. I never would have thought about checking there. Sauces usually scare me.

      Have faith, you will survive. I get mine from Pipingrock.com.  500 capsules of 10,000 IU for $22.  That is almost two years worth for me.  250 caps 5000 IU for $6.69 if you only take 5,000 a day.  It's like half the price of Walmart.

      Testing can't alone be trusted.  Else why would it take so many years of testing and retesting and misdiagnosis to finally be told, yes you have Celiac Disease. As to what to eat, I like pre 1950 style food.  Before the advent of TV dinners.  Fresh food is better for you, and cooking from scratch is cheaper.  Watch Rachel Ray's 30 Minute Meals for how to cook.  Keep in mind that she is not gluten free, but her techniques are awesome.  Just use something else instead of wheat, barley, rye. Dr Fuhrman is a ex cardiologist.  His book Eat to Live and Dr Davis' book Wheatbelly were instrumental in my survival.

      If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people.       I just want to clarify that what I posted is a category of research summaries we've done over the years, and nearly each one shows that there is definitely a connection to celiac disease and migraine headaches. The latest study said: "the study did indicate some potential causal associations between celiac disease and migraine with or without aura, as well as between migraine without aura and ulcerative colitis...this study did not find evidence of a shared genetic basis..."       Two months ago, I started taking Dupixent for dermatitis herpetiformis and it has completely cleared it up. I can't believe it! I have had a terrible painful, intensely itchy rash for over a year despite going fully gluten-free. See if your doctor will prescribe Dupixent. It can be expensive but I am getting it free. When the dermatitis herpetiformis was bad I could not do anything. I just lay in bed covered in ice packs to ease the pain/itching and using way too Clobetasol. Dapsone is also very good for dermatitis herpetiformis (and it is generic). It helped me and the results were immediate but it gave me severe anemia so the Dupixent is better for me. Not sure if it works for everyone. I cannot help with the cause of your stress but from experience I am sure the severe stress is making the celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis worse. Very difficult for you with having children to care for and you being so sick. Would this man be willing to see a family therapist with you? He may be angry at you or imagine that your illness is a psychosomatic excuse not to take care of him. A therapist might help even if he won't go with you. Also do you have any family that you could move in with (with the kids) for a short time to get away? A break may be good for you both.
