Hi-

I live in the Charlotte area of NC and I get a lot of gluten-free food at Earthfare, Trader Joe's, & Whole Foods-the websites will have their locations. However, Bi-Lo, Harris Teeter, Loew's and even Walmart has a small amount. I also am a member of Charlotte celiac and we have had a few restaurant meetings in the Fort Mill area of SC.

I hope this helps-

GO to Earth fare first, head back to Fort Jackson area and Rosewood is on the left I think they are in the same driving area.

Super bi-lo in Sandhills shopping center carries a small section on the last aisle of the store (away from the produce section). They have small bags of Pamela's mix (couple of different ones), some gluten free mixes( 2 or 3), Mrs Leeper's pasta, some corn crumb mix to flour with, midel cookies, and a couple of other things. The other stores are specialty health stores and have a wide variety of gluten free scattered thru the store including frozen things. you should be able to get alist of their stuff and directions from their web sites.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
