Maria's Italian Kitchen

I am going out on Valentine's Day to a restaurant called Maria's Italian Kitchen, in Pasadena CA. I am gluten, dairy, soy and egg free. I was wondering if anyone has been there and if so, what did you have?

I think Italian food is the hardest as most of it is based in wheat! I have no idea what to even order....? I don't want to have to just have lettuce, LOL!;)

Any suggestions for this specific place or Italian in general? Thanks! :)

If you haven't already talked to them, you probably need to do so BEFORE you go tomorrow night. V-Day is super busy for all restaurants....getting information from them tomorrow night might be difficult, even for a "one allergy" person, let alone someone with more than one allergy. I would talk to them today, explain you are coming tomorrow night, and ask what they think you can eat. Ask them to let the manager on duty on Vday that you are coming in, around what time, and what you wil be ordering.

My best bet would be a piece of meat/chicken/fish, with olive oil and basic spices, with steamed veggies/no butter.

Thanks Happygirl! I will call them. I did email them, but I will also call them. I didn't even think about how busy it would be! Thanks again. :)

I just got an email back from them saying:

OUR CHICKEN PRIMAVERA IS MADE WITH CHICKEN AND VEGETABLE.

Please specify that you cannot have butter. although we do not put

butter in this dish).

You can also have our RISOTTO dishes without DAIRY, NO CREAM CHEESE OR

BUTTER ALTHOUGH it WILL NOT TASTE THE SAME.

Amy our chef may make more suggestions for you.

Wow! I'm shocked they emailed me back so quickly! In case anyone is interested! :)

 They're basically telling you you can have risotto but without any risotto ingredients.

Maybe they have polenta. You would just have to get it w/o added cheese.

LOL! I know! But at least I can order the chicken off the menu...not having to ask for them to create something new. I once asked for a plain grilled chicken breast and veggies, and my plate looked so gross! It wasn't all nice and decorated like all the other people's...I was embarassed!

So...at least I can eat the same things as other people! :)

Was the card itself lost or just the record or both?

We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
