Milk Question....

if dd (8 months) has a problem with milk as well as gluten, would she necessarily have a problem with her infant formula? she spits up whan I give her yogurt (she usualy never spits up) and she looks like she's having reflux. her nights are HORRIBLE.

she wakes up screaming and her little legs pop right up in the air....she wiggles in pain, passes gas and a few seconds later falls right back to sleep...she does that between 15-30 times a night. I give her simethicone drops and it seems to help.

so I'm guessing it has something to do with the dairy. she does this after yogurt only. (she doesn't eat cheese or other dairy yet) but has no problems with her formula.

should I go with soya based formula instead to see if there is a difference?

I'm just so confused!!

Hmmmm.

Have you ever given her probiotics/acidophilus ??

Does she do the same thing with that??

I would think yogurt would be much more tolerable than the formula. I am wondering if the good bacteria in the probiotics/acidophilus are doing their job and creating a "little war" in her tummy while they are working (it will be a good thing after you get worked pass the gas stage)?? I would try adding in a very small amount of acidophilus throughout the day to see if that helps after a couple weeks.

One of my kids had a dairy allergy from birth. She wouldn't spit up much, but she wouldn't sleep, had rashes, tons of gas, etc. Her stomach sounded like a popcorn popper. We had to use homeopathic drops to help her. (Newton's Indigestion and gas was one of them. I can't remember the other. Sorry. But the gas stuff worked soooo much better than the stuff you are using.) Using Soy formula really helped her out. Also, your child is close enough to the one yr mark, talk to the dr about remmoving formula for a few days or a week. Are you nursing? If so, are you consuiming ANY dairy products? If so, remove all dairy (to trace level if you can) and see how baby is doing. My kid ended up being a Celiac, having a dairy allergy, a few food allergies, and we are still working on finding the latest problem.

I think you are saying she only has horrible gas when you give her yoghurt, but not when you give her formula, right? If thats the case, just stop with the yoghurt. I think the formulas process the milk so that its easier to digest. Obvously, quit feeding her yoghurt. I would also suggest holding off on any other dairy for a while and add very cautiously.

When you ask if you should try soy formula to see if she does any better, better in what way? If the gas is every night, then yes, if the gas is only after yoghurt . . . i dont understand.

Personally, I would give her coconut milk because it is high in fat, just like milk, I will be giving my child coconut milk after I am done breast feeding....really how much calcium is absorbed from milk? Hardly none at all, babies need fat not fiction.

I'm sorry...I realize my post is a little confusing....

she has gas almost every night....it is certainly worst when we feed her yoghurt. so we just stopped giving her that....she still has gas most days so now I took out all gluten AND dairy from her diet. but she is on formula so I was wondering if we should change to soy milk as well. I stopped nursing at around 4.5 months....the same time we started solids so we are not sure what is causing all the symptoms

My daughter is allergic to soy and dairy, among other things. All formula gave her problems. Alas we didn't find out about the allergies until she was 6. She used to get sick all the time and the only thing she wanted to eat was yogurt. I would give it to her, thinking it was making her feel better. Apparently not. Sometimes I would give her the canned chicken and rice soup but that has milk in it!

When Angela was a baby, she spit up all the time. She cried all the time. The spitting up seemed to stop when I introduced solid food into her diet. Perhaps just because the food was more solid. I don't know. But she began having problems at the other end. Soy based formulas caused constipation and milk based caused the opposite problem. I stopped all formula a few days before her 1st birthday and put her on real milk, not comprehending that milk was the problem. She didn't really like milk so well and I never did either (I also have a dairy allergy), so I didn't push it. I began giving her more water and fruit juice.

If I were you, I would try the soy forumla and switch her to a soy or rice based yogurt. Also be sure to read all labels well because dairy lurks in all sorts of things where you wouldn't expect it. If she does have a dairy allergy, it might take a couple of weeks for things to get better.

But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.

I see it everyday on my feeds.  They go out and buy gluten-free processed products and wonder why they can't heal their guts.  I don't think they take it as a serious immune disease. They pick up things off the internet which is so far out in left field.  Some days I would just like to scream.  So much better when we had support groups and being able to teach them properly. I just had an EMA blood test because I haven't had one since my Doctor moved away.  Got test results today, doctor ordered a D3 vitamin test.  Now you know what  type of doctors we have.  Now I will have to pay for this test because she just tested my D3 end of December, and still have no idea about my EMA.
