Malabsorption Issues & Recovery

I'm 11 months GFSF and was CF until just recently, now tolerating small amounts of milk. Fat malabsorption was severe a year ago, now normal (via Enterolab).

However, lots of vitamin, minerals and amino acids are very very low. Has anyone else had this issue and has it eventually resolved (like after 2 years of healing)?

If yours has resolved, what helped?

In the initial phase of healing, vitamins and minerals may not be absorbing. Yes, I would round my healing off to two years. Diagnosed in August of 2005, I now consider myself in total remission.

It took me six months to master the diet. There is just too much to learn and too many traps. Any newly diagnosed that claims to be totally gluten free in the first few weeks, just is not aware of the scope of the gluten free challenge. The learning curve it steep.

You are showing improvement. Be patient and diligent.

Thanks, Lisa. I appreciate your input. My main worry is that there might be another cause to the malabsorption (like lyme disease which I also have and can also cause dysbiosis) and that I am not catching it. I have been careful and diligent with the diet, and yes there has been a huge learning curve.

I only have a baseline for the fat malabsorption, as I was overseas when I got my Enterolab results last year. I was just in the US for a couple of months so the tests were run and were shocking. Also, I have been feeling worse in many ways the last 4 months even though BMs are more normal.

      We were flabergasted that the owner would not acknowledge a $50 e-gift card I purchased for my celiac wife. My wife tried to open it in the store and was informed there had been a system change and they could not find the record. No worries, she was told, just talk to management. Six months later, and numerous absurd back and forths, and the owner literally informs me there have been "bad actors", so she can't make good on this lost gift card. In other words, she accused me of lying and committing fraud... over $50! Please be careful with your orders and purchases here.

      Yes, some people do get withdrawal from gluten but gluten withdrawal doesn't usually cause gut pain. Maybe more like general body aches and discomfort. We have articles on gluten withdrawal on this forum. You might do a search for them. Applesauce is very acidic and some brands have added vitamin C (ascorbic acid) which makes them more acidic. This can damage the stomach lining if you eat it too often. Especially if your stomach lining is already compromised. Ibuprofen inhibits the body's ability to rebuild the stomach's protective mucosal lining. That's why it can cause peptic ulcers. As strange as it may sound, low level irritation/inflammation stimulates the body to rebuild the stomach lining. There are two steps in this rebuilding process known as COX 1 and COX 2. Ibuprofen represses both COX 1 and COX 2. Celecoxcib, a prescription anti inflammatory, inhibits only COX 2, making it less likely to cause damage to the gut lining.

      Do you or anyone know alot about ibuprofen  I wasn't sure if I was eating too much apple sauce.   Something is making my pain so much worse  I'm referring to the intense pins and needles in my feet and lower legs.  Jaw actually has tardive dystonia and muscle spasms throughout my back Almost like an opposite effect that a pain reliever would do. I'm fairly new to this. Whatever is going on seems to be worsening  Do people get a withdrawal effect from gluten?  It's extremely painful 😖  I'll post that question or research on the site  Thank you everyone for responding
