Hi everyone,

My husband is newly diagnosed and this is his favorite summer alcoholic drink. It's a "malt liquor" so I'm assuming it's a forbidden drink. True?

Many thanks,

Michele

True. :(

Here's a recipe I recently found though. I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds great.

Sparkly Hard Lemonade

1 can frozen lemonade concentrate

Shoot...that's what we thought too.

Thanks for the yummy sounding recipe. We'll have to give it a try. He's not really a whiskey drinker, but you could probably add any distilled liquor and it would still be tasty.

Thanks for sharing,

Michele

If you go to Canada- check there....I know it is produced completely differently there and I'm not sure that it is a malt beverage. When they brought it to the States they had to change the way it was made (and made it malted) because the alcohol percentage was too high to be sold in the US by law.

Vodka would be good :->

I looked at the labels of many different "coolers" one day, and it seems ALL of them are malt liquor. People call them "wine coolers", but they're more like beer coolers!

      Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
