Here is what the company wrote me when I asked them if thier bourbon contained Gluten.

Although I am going to stay with Jack Daniels, it is good to know this.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding glutens in beverage alcohol products specifically Wild Turkey Bourbon. We have received an approved answer to your question about glutens. Please see information below.

Gluten is a class of proteins found in certain cereals, particularly wheat, rye, barley and oats. They are volatile and, in the production of distilled spirits from such cereals, they are not distilled into the spirit product.

For example, by definition bourbon is produced from an original mash of at least 51% maize. The remaining 49% of the cereal grains in the mash may contain gluten. However, during distillation gluten would remain as part of the spent grains and not on the distillate or finished product. The bottom line is that, by the time the product has undergone distillation, maturation, blending and shipment, there is no gluten present in bourbon.

We would recommend that you contact a physician, as this involves a medical issue also, before consuming any beverage alcohol products.

Best Regards,

Earline

That's a good honest response but remember that some of us will react to gluten grains even if distilled. The first time you try it do it with caution and at a time when you are not taking any other gluten risks. Also be aware that those of us who do react will often become much more intoxicated than normal due to the brain impact so do take that into account if out and about.

If the Gluten is removed, and Gluten is what your intolerant of, then how can it affect you?

I really dont understand this. Are you sure its not the alcohol that some are allergic or intolerant to?

I have drank Jack Daniels (Im a semi-heavy drinker, have been all my life) with no problems. I have found that I am allergic to something in Rum and cant drink it. But I have no problem with JD. I am glad to know I can now have Wild Turkey (my brand before going gluten-free) again!

However I have grown quite fond of the taste of JD now and will most likely stick with it.

I was a beer drinker all my life though, and this Celiac has really messed that up! :-)

My daughter was tested for celiac because it runs in the family. She is positive for the celiac gene. she has an IGA deficiency so she also gets tested for IgG. The range is  >9 positive. Her bloodwork shows she is a 10 for t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgG . We have done several tests over the past 2 years due to many different reasons and this number has gone a little up or a little down but never higher than 17. Her Deamidated Gliadin Abs, IgG once went up but now is normal. She also possibly has another autoimmune disease. Her biopsy was negative. I am curious to know why only the tTG is high and not going higher? Is this celiac or not?

My doctor stated 4 slices of whole wheat bread for 4 weeks then take the blood work to diagnose. So I guess this is what I have to look forward to in the fall not to ruin summer plans with my family. I'm still confused on what the diagnose would tell me from the blood work. If it says Im gluten sensitive then I already know that from elimination diet and that won't help but how will the blood show vitamins I'm deficient in compared to my yearly physical blood work for vitamin results? Sorry I just get confused on what the blood results will tell me. If it's just to confirm gluten sensitivity then what good will that be as I've already eliminated gluten from my diet. Wouldn't adding gotten for 4 weeks just to confirm cause damage.

I have positive Ttg-IGA antibodies- and I have every time they have been checked. Also the antibodies do respond positively to a gluten free diet. However my biopsy showed no damage and my doc said it all looked okay in there. How does this happen and What does this mean??

I’ve got the patch, and then 100mg and says MFG XIROMED - is that generic manufacturer?  Pharmacist confirmed there’s no gluten, and im Not having celiac symptoms, just dermatitis herpetiformis symptoms, which is why I’m looking at hormone influence on inflammation/autoimmune issues writ large, and not looking at the gluten specifically.

Thank you for your message - essentially I have not been able to figure anything out on this front. From all I can find, and from people here have answered, then it is extremely unlikely that the progesterone should contain gluten. I have an endoscopy scheduled soon to see if there is damage, and to try and figure out what or where the issue stems from. I did have a stool test done, that did not contain gluten (while taking the progesterone pills).  So unfortunately I am still at a loss for answers.  Out of curiosity, which dose and manufacture of progesterone pills do you take?  I've tried both the 100mg and the 200mg progesterone pills, both from Aurobindo Pharm.
