Rice Chex

So...every day I have been visiting this board and in the upper left corner there has been an ad sitting there, taunting me! It says "We heard you - Rice Chex are now gluten free!" Hurray! I love Rice Chex! So I went to the store today and recalling the ad, I stopped in the cereal isle to check out rice chex. I look on the side for a list of ingredients and to my dismay there it is...right in the middle of the little paragraph..."Barley Malt Extract." GRRRR!

So what's the deal? Why the ad? Someone is going to get glutened!

You must watch for the new box. The new box says Gluten Free on the front. There are still some old boxes out there and yes, they do still contain gluten. The company has not dedicated a line completely to Rice Chex, just for gluten free. From what I understand, if the product goes over well, they may make more of their Chex cereals gluten free. Keep watching and you will find the right box. Walmart, Target's, even many of the grocery stores do have the new box. So far, it's only in one size, 12.8 oz box. We promise, it's out there!!!!

Yep, your store must still have the old boxes out. The new ones say Gluten Free and there is no barley listed. I have found the new boxes for a few weeks now in one grocery store but at others not so much luck. Keep looking though :)

I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.

It's great to hear that eliminating gluten has helped alleviate symptoms like eye burning, which is a significant and positive change. The first and most important step is to ensure you're consuming enough protein throughout the day to support muscle repair and growth, which can be challenging with a busy schedule. Since you're already physically active at work, adding focused strength training just 2-3 times per week can make a major difference. Bodyweight exercises like squats, push-ups (modified if needed), and lunges, or using resistance bands at home, are excellent, efficient places to start. Remember, consistency with these short sessions and prioritizing post-workout recovery, including good sleep and hydration, are just as crucial as the workouts themselves. It's a smart, gradual process at any age.

Trader Joe's carries a good variety of affordable gluten-free foods like bagels, hamburger buns, pasta, etc. I like Franz Gluten Free bread, which is available at my local Costco. Food For Life and Little Northern Bakehouse (advertisers here) also make excellent gluten-free breads. Costco also sells gluten-free pizzas, crackers, gravy, etc.
